NOTE: This information is for C7 PDR SD cards located in the glove box card reader.

The C7 spec is 32 gb max, Class 10, formatted FAT32. You would need to use a third party utility on your PC to reformat that card to FAT32 for it to work.

A 32 gb card will hold over 11 hours of recordings. No matter what size SD card you use, FAT32 file size limits require you to STOP and START recording every 90 minutes or so. Otherwise recording stops with no error message.

Be sure to CLOSE all files before removing the card - STOP recording or wait until RAP is off.

Personally I use 32 gb SD cards and carry a couple spares..

Ron

Spend $14.99. It's plenty.

Ron, thanks for your post. The comment about a FAT32 format stopping and needing to be restarted every 90 minutes took me by surprise as I have never heard that before. I asked Chat GPT (yes I know it can be wrong) but I received a great deal of detailed information on this subject including how to format the card in-car which is the preferred method. The attached PDF has all this information.

The C7 pdr STOPS recording without any error notice or warning when the file size limit is reached. The C7 pdr does NOT close a file and open a new file and continue recording (like my dash cam and GoPro).

I don't recall the exact time / file size, but it is somewhat more than an hour, so I try to STOP / START recording about every hour on a road trip. One of the more computer literate forum members filled in the WHY details years ago.

Lots of threads have covered this plus I have learned the hard way.

Also need to STOP recording or wait until RAP times out to properly close any ongoing recording or the file will be lost.

C7 PDR does not have the capability of formatting the card. The C8 might...

I will believe the human electronics teckie on this forum about WHY recording stops. I have experienced this myself.

Thanks Ron. I'll find out for myself in a couple of months when I pick up my new to me car and drive it 800+ miles home. I'll follow-up and report back on my experience.

I found one file from the drive home from Kerbeck when we picked up the GS. Time length is 1:39:13 (1 hr, 39 min, 13 sec). File size is 4,146,725 KB. The recording ends at a random spot on the highway with the car in motion, so I'm pretty sure it was a max file size shutdown. It is just easier for me to remember every hour. You can look at the status while recording to see how long (in time) the currently recording file is, then push stop / start at your leisure before 99 minutes...

This mechanical engineer just notes what works and what doesn't. I don't have a detailed interest in the intimate details of different file formats.

Oh - the dash cam and GoPro aren't that smart. The user selects how long each file should be in minutes...
