Default OBD2 Scanner

I'm trying to help my father out, he's not a computer person at all. I'm trying to find the right OBD2 Scanner for his car. It's a 2014 Corvette C7 he's not sure why the engine light is on and the car has 30K miles he assumes that it's nothing major. I don't want him to have to buy one of the more expensive ones if he doesn't have to. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

You can take your car to Autozone and they will scan it for free.

I you decide to purchase one, I have used Blue Driver and Scan Gauge.

I run the Scan Gauge in my SUV all of the time to display boost, fueling, temps, etc.

Visit your friendly parts store and they can scan it...diagnosing this for your father may be more challenging.

Good scanners are not cheap.

I use a mid grade scanner by Autel.

Except to pay at least $500 + for a scanner that will do everything you need.

A scanner won't tell you what is wrong or what part to replace, it only provides data that you have to be able to interpret yourself. Knowledge is just as important as a good scanner, you need to have both for success.

In the end, you get what you pay for.

Best of luck.

I concur with @CorvetteMike2024 Take the car to most any auto parts store and they have scanners for customers to use on-site. If your dad prefers to purchase an entry level scanner, Topdon has a few good scanners for under $200.
