Default Anyone else think the leaked numbers aren't correct?

Seems very odd that this is a legitimate leak.

Having 30lb more trq then hp seems a bit odd to me. Other then that, I believe those numbers are in the ball park.

Yeah think they might be backwards. 650 hp and 620 tq sounds about right.
the outgoing zr1 is like 638 and 608 .But not sure how much torque you could get with direct injection and VVT technology and maybe compression ratio differences.
Guess find out in a few days if its right or not.
Think more tq than hp would be more likely on a turbo than a supercharged engine.

Hmm actually maybe they could be right. Just looked up specs on my supercharged SL55
Engine 5.5L V8 SOHC 24-valve
HP (hp@rpm) 510 @ 6100
Torque (lb.ft@rpm) 531 @ 2600
So it has higher trq rating then hp rating.

Here are 2007 SL65 specs which is twin turbo v12
Displacement cu in (cc): 365 (5980)
Power bhp (kW) at RPM: 604(450) / 4800
Torque lb-ft (Nm) at RPM: 738(1000) / 2000-4000

Huge difference in tq over hp on the turbo car but the supercharged one also has bit more tq than hp .

I think GM should have made the z06 650 hp to be 10 more than current viper but still slightly less than current mustang gt500. But even 620 is pretty damn decent and a big increase from outgoing z06. And as said easy to get another 50 or maybe even 100hp out of a FI engine with things like pulley and tuning.

Here are specs for my 911 turbo which is only a 3.6 litre engine.
Displacement cu in (cc): 220 (3596)
Power bhp (kW) at RPM: 480(353) / 6000
Torque lb-ft (Nm) at RPM: 460(620) / 1950-5000

So here we have a turbo engine that puts out bit less tq than hp but with overboost option it puts out over 500 hp for like 10 seconds at a time.

So guess still some variables here . So its possible the numbers could be correct.

Having more torque that horsepower means the boost is falling off pretty badly at higher revs. This is likely done intentionally to allow the use of cheaper pistons and rods (since they are not exposed to the risk of detonation and large forces at high revs) or because they are coming out with a ZR1 and they want room to improve HP rating (any motor that makes 650 ft-lbs of torque is capable of well over 750hp if they keep the boost high til at least 6.5k).

As jvp posted in a few other thread yeterday, the numbers have not been finalized yet as the still have testing and SAE certifcation to do.

Makes sense if the LT4 is an LSA replacement. I'd be ok with that as long as it makes the Z06 more financially accessible. Prefer forged slugs though.

nothing wrong with the numbers, most cars made more tq than hp, as per the above illustrations... even in the old days of the 327... cam change should take care of that...

Correct as far as what? Before the ZR-1 was released the numbers leaked were 600/600. That was know (leaked) before the car was shown at NAIS. When I went to NAIS to see the new ZR-1, the display stand said 600hp/600tq (est.). When the engined finally finished SAE certification it came in at 638hp/604tq.

My '87 Z51, 4+3 was rated at 245HP/345TQ. Off the line it was quick in it's day. Top end was rated at 155mph. Fastest I ever got to was 150.

I just don't think they are the right numbers. I think its a rouse. It just seems to odd for a google search to turn up HP numbers.

I would be shocked if the tq number is higher than the HP. I'm thinking 620/600 is closer to reality.

It's gonna be a 10 sec car, regardless.

I doubt numbers are precise. I'm sure there in the ball park though. My understanding is that the numbers were not directly posted but were translated through meta data. Wew'll know in a week anyway.

I am absolutely thrilled with 620hp/650tq stock with full warranty! Why all the commotion?

True for us mere mortals but I'm sure a few of the elite will dip it into 10's in full stock form.

2014 Chevy Silverado 6.2 is 420hp and 460tq. Although the C7z numbers are not official and may not be 100% accurate there are many examples of motors making more torque than horsepower. Although the horsepower number is more influential for marketing purposes it is the torque that accelerates a vehicle.

Not necessarily.

What's important here is how well these new engines are responding to power adders. The torque tells the story.
