C7 Z06 is AWD.. possibly
This is something that was told to me by a guy who I ran into today at the gas station who works at Callaway. He came up to me and struck up a conversation about my C7, and he said they recently received engineering specs from GM and the new powertrain is AWD. He thinks it is to compete with AWD supercars and keep them in the game with them, especially because of the GT-R.
He seemed legit and was a guy in his 50's.. driving a Callaway C6. Unless he is mistaken, I am pretty good about calling out BS.. I dont think he would lie.
Then again who knows these days.

Exactly. I have a hard time taking almost anything as complete gospel, even from very reputable people.
I remember when the Jalopnik sketches first hit the web. My friend and I went to a muscle car show in IL. A very well known Camaro rep, an executive at GM, was talking to my friend and I. My friend inquired about the Jalopnik C7 rendering. His quote was "I can't tell you much, but I can tell you that the rendering looks like a C6. The C7 doesn't look like a C6"
So here I am thinking that a very reputable source basically squashed this rumor without flat out saying it. We all know how that rumor played out, the rendering wasn't kind of close, it was near spot on.
Believe it when we see it.

Not sure how you do that with the current body architecture and power train layout. If they keep the torque tube and rear transmission location how how do they do a power take off from the transmission, add in a torque convertor so they can proportion torque between the front and rear axles and then run a drive shaft back to the front and where to they locate a front diff? Not a lot of room to do that. If they move the transmission to the front the tunnel has to get bigger to fit the hardware between the two seats, cooling becomes more of an issue and weight distribution goes in the toilet along with handling and everything else. I have only seen a few GTRs on the track and the only time I have seen one run faster than me was when the driver was a better driver but then that driver could probably have driven my car faster than I could. My own experience with two different AWD vehicles is they have all of the bad handling characteristics of both front and rear wheel drive vehicles, considerably more weight which affects cornering, braking and acceleration while only providing the ability to distribute power across 4 wheels Vs 2. This works when in a straight line but comes problematic when accelerating away from the apex of a corner where you can get understeer due to violating the friction circle of the front tires.

The only possible way to add awd to the current chassis would be with electric hub motors in place of the front brakes and I don't see that happening during this generation and the spy pics showing the front rotors don't support that either.

Thanks Callaway Chris for always and only sharing accurate info, and clearling up this "AWD fantasy."
