Ceramic brakes or no ceramic brakes....that is the question.

I will likely get a bare bones Z06 if I can afford one. It all depends on the price.

At least brake dust will not be an issue nor stopping distance.

It would be a 2LZ for me, probably skipping the Z07 option.

My car will see very little track time if any.

That's where I am. I really want the ceramic brakes. Don't really want the cup tires.

Both of those should be stand alone options IMO.

Does anyone know what are the replacement/wear-rates on ceramic disks? Similar to steel? Also, not sure if true but, I was told that if you pick up a gravel it cuts a groove into the ceramic disk it MUST be replaced? That could get rather expensive.

I'm going all out this time, as this will likely be the last "me car" purchase. It's time to double down on retirement plans and my other hobbies aren't so cheap. Z07 for me.

If you don't track the car the rotors (disks) will last the life of the car. If you track the car, they will live far longer than the iron rotors. In short, the carbon ceramic brakes have a substantially far longer life than their iron counterparts.

They also make little to no dust in regular street driving, are quiet and stop like no other brakes you've experienced.

The negative on them is replacement cost. Some who do a LOT of tracking will run the irons cuz its cheaper to chew through them (and some who do a LOT of tracking still use the carbon ceramics as their life is so much longer, even on the track).

From an ownership perspective about the only thing you need to be careful of is removing/installing wheels. You bang a wheel into one of the rotors and chip it, you have to replace the rotor.

They are fabulous brakes. Damn shame they aren't available on all three levels of the new Z.

Until we know the cost and exactly what is included in each package, I think it is a little difficult to answer that question posed by the OP. I also am relatively sure that 625 HP will not be the top of the heap. We will have to wait and see.

I would like everything but ccb's. Or maybe get the ccb's and take them off to save for resale. Other than that just want as fast as possible (with a manual transmission).

If it weighs over 3500 lbs though that might be a deal beaker so would have to go bare bones with aero and nav/data and mpsc of course.

I want the base z06 in TSG or Laguna Blue with an A8 tranny. Black wheels…call it a day.

Bare naked base model Z06.

I'd pay $500 for comp seats, but $2,500 is rape for roughly the same seat with a little more support.

The aero won't last a day in my city, I'll probably take off the front piece that comes with level 1. No carbon brakes either, tracking is expensive enough.

Oh, I'll definitely get the track video recorder if it doesn't come standard.

There is nothing in 2LT or 3LT trims that interest me. I like an unrestricted windshield surface so the HUD is out. I build my own entertainment system so I don't need the Bose sub. Two tone interiors strike me as boy racer like so I am not interested. I'm saving the brown interior color for when I'm old.

I do like the carbon fiber trim better than the trashy looking plastic piece but ultimately, the dash itself is not carbon fiber. It is still very much a for show piece.

CCB rotor wear varies from manufacturer. Corvette CCB rotors have a reputation of holding up very, very well.

The "gravel cutting a grove" issue is new to me. Does anybody know of this actually happening? If so. how frequently?

Default why ceramic brakes

Why ceramic brakes? I see the C7R is using steel rotors. I realize that is a race car but if ceramic were better, wouldn't they be using them too? I know about the brake dust issue etc and the coolness factor but are they really better then the steel brake rotors?
