Two years ago I bought a 427 Vert at the insanely discounted pricing and my friends thought I was crazy. Most of my social circle revolves around car activities including half a dozen track weekends. There was however some method to my madness as I wanted a convertible for all the reasons people do realizing it would not be a track car period. The next month I bought a used FRS aand spent half the price of the car in modifications making it a really quick, totaly street legal track car that I now will run even more frequently. All of these decisions making way to ADD a C7 Z06 in a couple more years. This will require a lift installed in the third bay, all part of the plan. The Z06 will be driven only when the mood strikes just like the 427 except for the very occasional track weekend. I personally just can't stand to see cars of this caliber beat down with regular track use and I drive much more comfortably in a "disposable" car.

Hopefully I can get a coupe faster if more people are willing to wait a few months for a vert!

Coupe for me. It's a safety thing. The Vert looks awesome and they will sell like hotcakes.

This is a though one... I would have to wait to see real world numbers and see them both in person. Right now I'd lean towards the convertible.

For me, the top comes down on a sports car. Wind, sun, motor. I like the way the vert top looks, too. Gives an old school touch to the ultra modern C7 lines. Targa is OK but no bueno if you are where you need to lock up when you park. In-out; too much hassle.

It seems like every time I pull up to a intersection and see a vert, I notice one predominant bit of behavior. Vert owners have a tendency to look around to see if other people are looking at them. Maybe it's just here in California, but I think not. The repulsive vanity of it all. Maybe some of you can chime in on this observation. Usually the hardtop version of any dramatic designed sports car is better looking vs the vert version anyway. I believe that is true with the Vette, Ferrari 458, Lambo Huracan, Porsche 911........

Hey, the base 'vert with the Z51 option is in the same boat - lots of good track equipment on board and no where to go.
It depends on what group you are running with. There are some track groups that I run with that will allow convertibles without a rollbar but only in beginning or intermediate groups. Advanced groups must have a full roll bar or be a coupe. If you do not want to have any question as to whether you will be welcome at the track then the coupe is the way to go. It is of course the safer choice should be unspeakable happen.

I agree that the Z06 is (surprisingly) attractive in convertible form...

Love the vert and want one but I think the coup offers more room than the vert for big guys like me...Not sure if that true or not.

I'm a convertible guy, but one minor negative for me is the loss of anonymity. So I get what you're saying from the opposite perspective. Driving such a noticeable car around the neighborhood with the top down all the time....you get it. I've always got a baseball cap and shades on so that's my disguise.

Another ragtop negative from a ragtop lover - they are more dangerous. Roll it and you're dead. They need rollover protection. I managed to roll the 90 horsepower Ford Falcon I learned to drive on. I think I'll find the roll bar thread and post this.

Was gonna do a 16 or 17 coupe till the vert was annouced because of the targa top, Now I'm gonna a 16 or 17 vert, Never bought a c6,, my c5 vert with mods could keep up with c6 Z06 and I would have missed the top down cruising. Definetly happy

Both are awesome. Targa roof coupe version of the Z06 gets the nod

I have a 07 vert for the sole reason of being able to fit my 6'7" inside the vette. The coupe style hits the back of my head and I can't squat lower in the seat to avoid it.
My 6'8" nephew fits in my vert just fine too.
I see a Z06 in my future if the head room is the same.
Got to love the new technology.
