Hang on to your hat.....new information from Motor Trend Magazine New C8 ZR1 to be Mid-Engine....
C8 ZR1 Mid-Engine
MT?
Last year this time they were adamant that Chevy would release a budget C7 with a 5.5L V8. How did that prediction turn out? My guess is that their "scoop" is just a gimmick to sell some magazines and get some web clicks.

I have heard of a possible mid engine vette possibility since the early '60s.
fixed.
As oft as ye shall ask "when will we get a mid-engine?" Tadge doth answer "when it makes sense." Regardless of any theoretical mid-engine advantage, the front-engine (might even be front mid-engine if all the powerplant is behind the front axle; I've never checked) C6 ZR1, 22-cubic-foot trunk and all, beat the dogcrap out of every mid-engine exotic around Laguna Seca. The C7 Z06 has already topped the ZR1's Lutzring record, maybe because it only has 15 cubic feet of trunk, and promises to be as useful as any econobox or SMAV (soccer mom assault vehicle) every day if you only need two seats.
That's a key part of the Corvette's business case--an everyday supercar. A mid-engine would give up a lot of usable storage space, and not everybody wants a supercharged V8 roaring just behind their ears all day. Performance and handling gains wouldn't make up for the loss of DD capability. Personally I'd love to have a mid-engine ZR1 with a folding hardtop so I could track it, and learn to live with a small frunk (front trunk) for everything but my bike, which fits perfectly under my C6 hatch. A hardtop could also take a bicycle roof rack. But my vote doesn't count for much.
I would predict the Corvette going to mid-engine when it goes to a V6 engine.
Now, I don't like V6 engines, a boxer-6 has better balance and a straight-6 has better balance.
And so a 3.2 V8 would be a better engine than a 3.2 V6. But the V6 has been improved to the point that everyone is just offering the V6. Well, MB for instance.
The drawing here is very good but it's just a Corvette-theme copy of a Lamborghini Huracan or of a McLaren.
But take a careful look at the USA MPG laws and that could predict when to expect a C8
.
Doubt they're going to let the full C7 line run its course, then introduce this as a C8 ahead of coupes, verts and Z's. Also doubtful that they will hold back on the ZR1 through the full C7 cycle altogether and miss the opportunities for the 700 hp class. Thinking MT is missing the mark yet again.
