Ok, so I was wondering how the heck am I going to increase my chances for a new Z06. So, I think to myself, "how many people will actually pull the trigger" on the car if they had a spot - which I don't
Anyway, based on some of the speculation here, GM will make 20% or like 7000 Z06s. Making an assumption that the cars will cost- on average- $90 to 100k....taxes, delivery, options, blah blah blah
That total $$$ is huge... How's the math here: 7000 cars x $90,000 = $630,000,000 just for year 1? Is that real? Maybe I'm way off, but not sure if I feel my chances are better knowing that a small percentage of the automotive buying public can pull off that big of a number....

Your math is definitely correct.
There's no doubt that a small percentage of the public has the discretionary income to afford a vette. Whether it improves your chances of getting a Z is another story. Although, I'd be willing to bet that if you really want one and are willing to be patient, one will eventually be parked in your driveway

Good luck!
I'm kind of wondering about the available market for the car. This is not to write that the price presents less than a good deal vs competition I just wonder how many there are that can afford the car. Modestly equipped the Z is going to cost close to 98- 100k with tt&l...90k for the car and then the rest. While the Stingray is selling very well I would bet the avg cost is some where around 65k or lets say 70k with all in. That's a huge deference between 70 and 100k. How many folks can really easily afford such a number? If one were to put 25k down and finance the rest for 5 years the monthly would be, depending on the % interest over 1400/mth. Of course there are a number of folks that can just pay cash....but how many. My point is that I don't think you will see a prolonged availability crunch for the car and over a years time no where near 7k sold after the first year and I am dubious about that. Could be good and bad news...rrm
I doubt most Z06's will be in the upper 90's. Why does everyone here think that you have to have a Z07 package to be considered "modestly equipped"? I would be willing to bet that MOST Z06's have an MSRP in the 80's as built. I dont think the majority of the buying public will get a Z07. Yea, maybe a considerable number of the very first orders will be Z07's, but that group is skewed a little because of the 'gotta have the best of the best, and gotta have it first' crowd.
Just remember GM's expenses are "astronomical" to say the least. Just stop and think what it would cost to open up a plant with all the robotics, labor, the materials themselves, and the list goes on and on. Its quite mind boggling actually.

This is the home of the 'gotta have the best of the best, and gotta have it first' crowd so reading this forum gives a skewed view of the average consumer of this product. As you say, most Z06 will not have the Z07 package, and I'm guessing the Z07 package will be heavily constrained. The Z07 is a track car and there are not a lot of actual track consumers out there, or even in this forum.
My Z06 2LZ vert won't be a Z07 and will include the A8.
My plan is to buy a lightly used Z06 in 2-3 years. A 85k$ Z06 will probably be around 65k$ by then. And if there is a ZR1 in a couple years or a C7 face lift, then the used first gen C7 Z06 could probably be even cheaper.
I let others take the big depreciation hit. That's how I afford my expensive cars. I would strongly suggest everyone to order a blue Z06 so I have more choices in a few years...

A car that has an MSRP in the low 80's will end up costing 90k out the door. In FL a base model Z06 with zero options will end up costing at least 85 grand.

Yep.
But, the OP wasn't specifically identifying model options. Rather, the discussion is really more about the cost associated with a Z06, and how many people can really afford them. Thus, giving him a better chance of landing one.

When you say "out the door" you are referring to what exactly? Tag, tax, title and registration fees, etc.? Because you cant EVER count on recovering that on resale. Those fees are applied to all cars, and every subsequent owner will end up paying respective said fees when they buy also.

You don't need to order the Z07 pkg to get to 90k in texas sales tax is 6.25 so you can add 5500 or so for tt&l. In other words 95+
IMO this really shrinks the buyer world to a very few. Certainly more than the zr1 but way less than the Stingray crowd...rrm

GM may make 7000 but I bet they don't sell that many in 1-2 years. The ZR1 was the cats *** when it came out and they could only muster 4000 or so units between 2009 and 2013.

The point to all this is that IMO your not going to have any trouble getting a Z if you will have just a little patience. While GM has priced the car very competitively vs others in the category or near category there are only so many folks that can afford a 90-100k car and while I THINK they will get a very good market share the gross numbers of buyers just isn't anywhere near what the Stingray market happens to be. A 458 priced at 150k would be an exceptional deal but how many of us could take advantage of such a deal? Same thing here only down the dollar scale. There is no shame in this or any directed slander just a hunch on total market population...rrm

Once the initial glut of order is past (gotta have it first, gotta have it maxed, gotta have it now! group), it won't be impossible to get a Z contrary to popular belief here.

Very true....unless you get dead while waiting.......

Many people are not following through with placing orders. I placed my order yesterday with my dealer. While I was placing my order I noticed I was 1 of 2 people who at that time actually placed an order. My dealer was allocated 9 cars (all of which were spoken for). They also were allocated 6 2015 Z28's (only 2 have followed through with ordering those).
