Hi my dealer told me last night that all z06's had to be ordered with a manual transmission and that the automatics were not available. he wanted to know if I still wanted the car. anybody have a solution to keep me from losing my order? thanks
yeah I want a manual but I crushed my tibia in the joint in my left knee and I'm afraid that I may have trouble with a clutch. It sucks even thinking about an automatic to me but ya gotta play the cards you're dealt.
I have an order in for an A8 Z06. The first several consensus cycles will only be M7 coupes, as Chevy did announce Autos and convertibles will be available 1-2 months later. That in no way prevents you from ordering an A8. You just won't get an allocation for,a while. Your dealer is either lying, ignorant, or totally misreading the announcement about the Z06 intro.

I've told many car guys that once you work with the auto with paddle shifters at a track you will never go back. My wife has a Optima Turbo fully optioned and it was my first try at an auto with paddle shifters. We tracked it at Pgh Drags and it ran 0-60 at 6.1 and the qtr at 14.5. This is a 2 liter 274 hp.
I could only imagine how awesome the corvette would be. Now I understand why the super cars are not offering manuals. You get faster shifts (never loose 1 rpm when shifting) and better acceleration along with better mileage.
I was considering the Z but when the hellcat came out fully loaded at $65k it was a no brainer.
I will never go back to a manual after playing with the paddle shifting autos. 55 years of driving and I never has so much fun.
My dealer is probably not that familiar with ordering vettes they sell several a year but it's not a big seller for them. He married my niece so I don't think he's intentionally misleading me. He's going to talk with someone at GM and get back with me on how to handle it.
Do wait for the A8 or go Z51 A8. That's a lot of torque to handle with knee problems. On a C7 I would go A8 and force myself to use the paddles all the time.
[QUOTE=badhabit_wb;1587806123]that's great news for me. from what I was being told they weren't shipping those. thanks for the heads up.[/QU
There are many preliminary orders being placed by dealerships which will move though the system when the A8 constraint is lifted. The A8 will probably be their top selling accessory for 15 so most likely constraint will be lifted soon. GM still hasn't to my knowledge released it's EPA data on the A8 tranny which is necessary to sell the vehicle. I like you can no longer drive stick and placed my order 1 week ago for a Z06 with the A8 tranny. I currently drive a F1 on my Ferrari and love it. If the A8 is anything like the F1 it is going to set new standards of performance.
I have to wait. It looks like the z06 might be the only one to get the a8 this model year anyway.
The A8 is not being held up because it is scarce. It is already shipping on Stingrays.
The holdup on the Z06 is that they decided to install a second transmission cooler to alleviate overheating when tracked hard and long. The holdup is the cooler, not availability of the transmission itself.
I placed my preliminary order for an A8 Z06 with my dealer on September 6. They are a top 100 dealer and I am #3 on their Z06 list. They were very confident that my car would be delivered no later than March of next year.

Have they gotten the spec sheets as to EPA figures, performance figures yet? Any idea how long to get the tranny sorted as to second cooler ?

They have already sorted it out. They are in the testing phase and should be completed within the next 2 weeks. My A8 is on order; I expect delivery in December.

Great post regarding the A8. I'm sure your excited regarding possible delivery in Dec. It will be a nice Christmas gift!

You could be "at risk" if you are ordering from a dealer with only 1 or 2 allocations and here's why.....once the dealer is notified from GM that they can order a Z06, they either order a car with whatever is not on constraint or lose the allocation (and I guarantee no dealer will lose the profit opportunity!!!). The dealer should tell you that they will either order you a manual trans or tell you that they will pull ahead any other allocation(s) desiring a manual and give you the next right of refusal (if they have more than 1 allocation otherwise you're SOL!).
he said he'd order the manual but that won't help me unless i can get that changed before it's built. I'd hate to order the manual and then find out too late that it was built and I had to take it.
