I don't think there is a chance I can keep it in one piece on my daily drive to work. Has anyone seen any mention of how the splitter is attached to the bumper?
I'm hoping it's easy enough to where I can put it on a the track and take off otherwise. Is the ZR1 splitter easy to take off?
Does the dealer receive the parts separately and then they install the CFZ/CFV bits before delivery? If so, I might ask the front not be installed at all.

The ZR1 splitter is easily removed and was installed by the dealer. Should be exactly the same scenario for the Z06 as it will make transporting much easier.
Another splitter question. I am ordering my Z06 without additional ground effects (standard car, no aero). A friend who knows more about vettes than I said he was pretty sure the Z06 ordered with front aero/splitter would have additional internal bracing in the nose to accomodate downforce stress caused by the splitter. Cars without factory front splitters would not have the same bracing, and adding after market splitter (my eventual intention) might be problematic due to lack of bracing. Is he correct, or will all Z06 cars have the same front structure regarding splitter attachment points?

All Z06s have splitters. The standard front splitter extends only an inch or so less than the optional splitter. I doubt there is any difference whatsoever to the car.
Although the front splitter is no work of art, I would hesitate removing it without something official from Corvette's engineers.
It serves an important function regarding downforce....most particularly on the front wheels.
Taking it away would certainly change the car's handling characteristics and probably not for the better.

The Z51 Stingray comes without a splitter. Why would the Z06 sans splitter handle any differently at speed than a Z51?
Given my garage situation, I think I'm going to have to remove my front splitter if I want to save it for posterity.
Messing with engineering may be dangerous to your health at speed.

That would be an engineering question directed at Chev. I would think a car with the capabilities of the new Z06 would have had numerous aerodynamic studies regarding downforce, lift and chose what worked best in most conditions. Many people put diffusers, various spoilers etc on vehicles thinking if it looks good it is good, but in many instantaneous mess the stability of the vehicle up. These stability problems for the most part show up at high speed not usual driving conditions.
Engineers make mistakes also- Anyone out there remember the 60 Impalas,Belairs that had the beginnings of tail lift off at approx. 60mph. The 63 and later C-2 Vets front ends began to lift around 75mph and the heavier 427's that got light at 85mph.
I ordered the Basic Z06 having many of your concerns regarding daily driving, splitter damage. Too bad Corvette did not take the path of electromagnetically lifting the front per driver control as did Lambo and ferrari optioned cars.

Good to know. I was afraid there would be some double sticky tape involved.
