Default Baffle control

In my C6 Z06 I had an aftermarket baffle control put in and it allowed me to open the baffle at below 3000 RPM. I believe the new car has the same concept in electronic baffles. Is there someone making it for the new Z06 or Stingray ?

Aftermarket? The factory system has 4 two up front (4 cylinder mode) and two in the mufflers. You control them with the drive control.

Chevrolet makes it and includes it with the NPP option. There is no mild-to-wild or similar for the C7, although you can always pull the fuse.

In the Track and Sport they stay open. All other modes they are closed until a certain RPM.

In the C6Z, they opened at 3500 rpm with the exception with comp mode where they opened at 3000 rpm. No need for the W2M with the C7.

Here is my question. Can you customize the menu of settings to include Track mode exhaust in the Tour mode?

I suspect the answer is no, but I like the car relatively loud all the time.

I had the Mild to Wild gizmo in my C6Z and just left it loud all the time.

What you need is one of these I reckon.... Louder than standard in cruise and much louder on Sport or Track. Not cheap and not confirmed it will fit the Z06 yet but I think I plan on getting one.

If the Z06 is to be truly track capable as advertised, these days they should include the ability to keep the exhaust in quiet mode all the time for the many tracks that are now sound restricted. I know it will most likely be a problem for me here in Phoenix as the track I prefer is heavily sound restricted. Call it stealth mode perhaps!!

In the personal preferences setup menu you can set the "engine sound management" to "auto" or to "off". If you choose "off" you get loudness in any mode. If you choose "auto" it is loud only in Sport and Track modes. And let me just say that it is loads better than the C6 was, even with M-t-W.

I wish they would include an "on" mode. That would solve my problems with a sound restricted track. I expect that I would have to track there in tour mode, and if I may ask, even in tour mode does it still go to the open setting above a certain rpm, because then even tour mode won't help me.

It sounds like you cannot use NPP to keep the baffles closed the whole time. In either case, I hate to disappoint my fellow track goers but even with the baffles closed you won't pass sound on many tracks.

I saw a ZR1 blow past 97db with the baffles closed at Laguna Seca. The sound limit is 90db and 92db. We're going to need a lot more than a gadget that helps the baffles stick to closed.

Default Back Pressure adds low end torque!

If you look at turbo cams you will notice all they do is help create low end torque by setting the overlap for it. I used supertraps that can open in my setup, and I like it much more with them bolted-on.
Any cars exhaust has to be designed for the upper end flow, therefore anyone thinking they are increasing their power doing this is kidding themselves. And I have met plenty! Noise is not always the same thing as power!

I'm not quite as bad off, we have to keep it below 94db, but at least with the baffles closed some redirection of the sound might be enough, or at least we could try some small muffled resonators replacing or attached to the functional tips. A local Lotus Elan has a setup that diverts his exhaust through a vertical truck muffler to pass at AMP, and I think he still had problems with the sound when running on the rev limiter.

(not you, the situation!)

That's actually a brilliant trick (ha!) connecting additional mufflers to the tailpipes. To bad there are 4 of them! Maybe a custom 4 into one fat pipe collector would work. Then add only one large truck muffler.

I was thinking that if baffles were closed that only two outlets were active, is that wrong?

I was thinking that a large lightweight cross mounted tube reflector packed like a glasspack muffler connected to all four tips that was open at both ends might do the trick, but who would be willing to build such a specialized piece of cr*p on spec.
