I don't think I'd pay the $995 extra. There are enough people who were forced into the clear top (due to constraints) who would prefer the colored top that I would think it would be easy to find someone to swap for free.

Thank you both. Looks like to get the black top I will need to go CF at 1995 or, as you suggest find some one that wants to swap for a AW top, or AM...rrm

First, both solid tops are CF. The visible one just made it through a quality control inspection based on looks, while the painted roofs may have had problems with weave and lay down, that while not affecting strength or surface smoothness, would not good under clear paint. Both tops are constrained, the painted CF at 35% and the visible CF at 20%. So the solid painted top, while constrained, is still on one out of every three coupes, while the Visible CF top is only allowed on one of every five. A little math will tell you that the transparent top has to be on at least 45% of the coupes.
Unless you want a solid top in a color other than what the car is painted, you have a one in three chance of getting it on any given consensus cycle. Painted tops are included in the cost of the car, transparent are another $995 while the Visible CF is another $1995 above base. If all you want is a top that looks black (actually transparent tops are very dark blue,) then get the clear top and spend another $50-100 for a liner. Much cheaper that the Visible CF top.
