Something does not add up....
Now that's out of the way, here is why I am creating this thread. I need someone to explain to me the performance numbers behind this car. On one hand we are told this car beats a ZR1 in a race track, correct? We also know in nurburgring, with lots and lots of straights, ZR1 is currently what? in the top 15? That's pretty darn impressive. It means this thing has to beat all the Porsche models up to 918 spyder, all BMWs, Ferraris, and so on. So fine, that's the "claim".
Now reality is, this car does 127-128 mph in 1/4 mile, people say it sort of dies off past 140 mph. I don't understand this. An M6, a big fat whale M6, with a competition package (in layman-s terms, that's 575 hp and 502 ft/lb torque in a 4200 lbs WHALE) does 126-127 mph 1/4 mile. With a $350 tune and a $1000 downpipe, it does 130 mph. Are you now telling me the Z06 will lose to the M6 or it will be a head to head race? That's not just a disappointment, in my book it just does not add up. Something somewhere is either miscalculated or misrepresented. It doesn't matter what tires this car has and how wide they are and how much aero is producing how much down force, for this car to be as good as what everyone has claimed, even in a race track, it has to perform much better than trapping 127-128 mph.
Also, if the timing is being pulled after moderate use for a few minutes, this means a person won't be able to complete 1 full lap of nurburgring without losing power. Again, how is this car supposed to beat ZR1?
This is not a post to upset people, but a genuine attempt to understand how these performance figures/claims are being created. Either GM is not telling the truth, or the car makes more power, or I don't know what else it can be.
I too am concerned and curious as I am ready to pull the trigger on an A8 coupe Z07.

The z06 has just been released a for a week.. M6/m5 has been out since 2012 and the first person to hit 10 sec just did that not to long ago. Give it time to be explored..

I think you are fixating on top speed. Give it a little while and we'll see how the lap times work out.

Here is what I don't understand...how many ways must a car be measured to be considered a super car? The vette clears the quarter in 11.1. That puts it up there with all but a handful of Exotic Supercars exception being the GT-R at 11.0(150k for this?). Beating such auto as Ferrari 458 Special at 11.1 126mph. Beating all the Porsches except the 911tt-s and the 918. Besting the Viper TA. The Z hits 60 in 2.9/3.0 secs which is an exceptional number for any car especially a rear wheel one. I know when it first was announced that there was to be a '15Z I had hopes of 3.2 to equal the great ZR1 but the auto trans blew that away.We now have proof of both the tq and hp numbers as well as the weight. We also know according to at least one magazine that the z has the shortest stopping distance of any stock car they have ever tested along with the highest lateral g. Plus the fit and finish of the car is outstanding...so...I ask again! What does it take? (purely rhetorical I know)...rrm
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Wow and ouch !!! Always better to wait - lack of tests were the signs.
Wow and ouch !!! Always better to wait - lack of tests were the signs.

I am a long time Bimmer and Corvette guy; the OP is right. How is it that a 650HP rated vehicle coming in at roughly 3500lbs is only trapping at 127 or so while a 505HP C6Z of yesterday was trapping in the 125 mph range? Sure, the C6Z is lighter, but with 145 additional SAE certifies ponies, you would think 130 to 131 would be the acceptable trap speed given its greater aerodynamics and more ponies vs. the previous N/A model. Granted, GM cleverly said the Z was trapping at 123 or thereof back in 2009/2010 exactly around the same time the C6 ZR1 was released…remember that folks? I've smelled the marketing "game playing" trash for years.

Just think about it, back in '06, the C6Z was marketed as an 11.60's or so 125MPH machine. Many of us with some skills even got faster times than that. Then somewhere along the way the C6Z became an 11.8's @ 123mph car...funny, it was slowed down (marketing move) around the same time the ZR1 was released...which was advertised to run in the 11.40's or so at 127 if I remember correctly.
Hmmm....perhaps they didn’t want folks to say: screw that, a $45K to $55K or more mark-up for a car that is only a couple of tenth and maybe a couple of MPH faster than its N/A brother? No way! Therefore, tell the public the Z06 is much slower vs. the ZR1 and thus the justification for the price hike.

Moving forward, the C7Z is certainly de-tuned…I’ve messed with one for a few hours and it does have lots of hidden HP potential. Perhaps GM left it up to us to unlock the hidden additional ponies if we choose to.
Regardless, MPH does not win races, Elapsed Time does…the new M6’s are NOT running low 11’s stock; they are high 11’s at best. Based on proven M6 track results vs. GM advertised ET for the new Z, in the real world, all being equal, from zero to end of the 1/4 mile the C7Z would smoke the M6 or M5. Then again, I am basing it on GM’s claims…I will have to see for myself. By now I would have purchased a new Z, but a) I am not too convinced on all the GM hype, and b) I want the automatic transmission…no more stick for me. So for now, I will have to simply enjoy our customers Z06. Hey, they are not complaining, they are getting crap for free.
Also, the c7 interior (the part of the car where you'll hopefully spend most of your time driving) is light years better , imo, than the zr1s. This Is ultimately why I went for this car rather than having picked up a zr1.

Also, for what it's worth, I would much rather have a C7Z06 than a ZR1. The C7Z is an amazing car, I would love to own one. That said, it speaks volumes about the Corvette fanbase that people get their panties in a bunch this much over a few races with a Viper. Talk about insecure.
I guess some of the age-old Corvette owner ***** jokes ring true.
But one can carry 5 adults and has butt massaging and ventilated seats with an entire interior covered in either leather or alcantra the other is well, you don't need me to tell you.
I know compared to a typical american car like a suburban or an explorer an M5 feels "cramped up", but to me it's actually plenty big. It's the perfect family car. I cannot carry my wife and kids in a Z06 and still get some enjoyment.
