Your dealer should know what he is allowed to order when he gets an allocation for the order cycle. If your order gets to 2000, then it has been accepted by GM.

So my preliminary order is in and I guess I'll hear if it's accepted fully by GM next Tuesday. My question: if the dealer knows that an order they place has a constraint, would they even submit that order in Preliminary form? I ask because I've told my dealer that unless I can get the car with the options I want/need, I'm waiting for a 2016. Any further advice appreciated.

Your dealer already knows what options he can't order. However, I think (but don't know for sure) that it is remotely possible that he could luck out and get an option that he wasn't allocated. For example, let's say he doesn't have an allocation for CFZ but he submits an order for it anyway. Once all the orders have been submitted, GM discovers on Monday that several dealers who were allocated CFZ didn't order it, so that there are CFZ allocations "left over" and, voila, your dealer lucks out. Just a guess on my part about what happens between the closing of the order window on Saturday night and the confirmation of orders on Tuesday.
That said, there are reasons to be pessimistic about this actually happening, as constrained options tend to be fully subscribed because there is a backlog of orders, and the large dealers surely get preference in this re-allocation process
That could easily happen. My dealer's allocation came in last week and I could have ordered the z07 package but didn't. On Tuesday somebody will get lucky because there will be an extra z07 allocation available.

Why would you not want your order in the system. If, God forbid, GM decides to raise the price on this baby on 1 Feb or any other day prior to the end of model year production, you are price protected if there is anorder in your name in the system.
Also, when it comes time for GM to hand out allocations for a given consensus cycle, do you think a dealer with no orders in the system or a dealer with several orders containing a constrained option in the system, has a better chance of being assigned those constrained items. Only 25% of non-Z07s will get the CFZ ground effects, for instance. GM is more likely to give an allocation allowing that option to a dealer who has several orders requesting that options, than one who has none.

My thoughts are these re: potentially waiting for a 2016 IF I can't get the options I want this week.
My selling dealer will most probably only get one more allocation this model year, and of course it will be later on. Other Local dealers are fully sold out this year, so that's not an option.
I do not want to pick up a 2015 in say May/June, when the '16's will be out in a couple of months, especially since GM may enhance the A8 for track duty, or make other slight changes as they generally do. I'm ok with a certain price increase btw if I have to wait.
My preference is to order the car now; my Workbench order has been submitted with all the options I want, so now I just wait until Tuesday.

well...it looks like my tuesday has arrived - got the call we all wait for, and was told my A8 convertible, Z07/CFV went status 2000 (GM accepted) - with all the stories, smoke and mirrors going on about status codes, i hope thats good
Mine went to 2000 today as well but I've been waiting for months so I guess it's finally going to happen. Hard to believe it's this difficult to spend this much money. Good luck to everyone waiting.

If GM goes back to their normal new model release cycle(and I bet they do), then you should be able to order a 2016 in April and they will start down the assembly line in June with the first builds showing up at the dealers in July.
My order was holding at 1100 for awhile but as my salesman (Mike) promised it is at 2000 today. I am one happy man knowing my Z will be here soon...
ps: Thanks Mike F.

Well my selling dealer has assured me that my order has been accepted with the options I want, so I guess a 2015 it is!

yup...me too...exactly as i ordered it - last line of first table shows he had my order pass thru GM 11 times before it was picked up for an allocation
the explanation (although still somewhat cloudy for my understanding) is that not all dealers ordering a car actually accept the allocation, at which point a fastidious dealer watching the process can step in and grab what he may need for his order - not that i understand it, i'm just saying this:
