2015 Z06 Nurburgring Lap Time 6:59.13
Any truth to this?

Heat Soak? Horsepower-limiting ECU? Undersized roots blower?
Who’s laughing now?
According to fresh reports, the 2015 Corvette Z06 has run a lap time of 6:59.13 at Nurburgring, and the HD on-board video will be released “soon”.
What do we know about this run? It was done in a production 2015 C7 Z06, and the car was equipped with the Z07 aerodynamics package, along with GM’s new 8L90 eight-speed transmission. That is all the information we have at this point, but we do expect more (official) information to be released in coming weeks.
As you know, the C7 Z06 has been heavily criticized as of late, with rumors circulating that the car suffers from heat stroke, or a poorly programmed factory ECU, etc. There are also numerous videos appearing on the internet of the new Z getting beat by the likes of the SRT Viper – the C7 Z06’s primary competitor.
This recent news, however, will redeem this amazing machine in the eyes of enthusiasts, and will solidify this car as an amazing machine that displays hypercar performance.
This lap time places the new 2015 Corvette Z06 in a new category altogether, and could be compared (statistically) to the Porsche 918, LaFerrari and McLaren P1 – all for a fraction of the price. For reference, the Porsche 918 Spyder has previously recorded a 6:57 lap time, so this new Z06 is certainly in elite and exclusive company.

Very well could be true.
The only thing is how they got this information out before GM? I would think GM would want to immediately publish this information.

These were the same people who posted the GT350 time as well. A bit shady if u ask me.

Why is a Ring time so important to you guys? Do you guys regularly complete laps on the Ring? Bar bragging rights?
The time doesn't matter. It's a track used to tune the car on many fronts.
Don't fall for this marketing Ring time that you will never duplicate.

I'm thinking it's just to show the car's capability. I really don't think any owner here purchases their Z based on ring times.

Agreed that nobody will replicate these times, and that the vast majority of owners will never see a track. However, from an industry perspective, I find these times interesting in that they (somewhat) standardize progress in performance. The thought of a below 7 minute time just a couple of years ago was unthinkable on a corvette. I still don't believe this time but if true, it sets a new bar for manufacturers.
