...Has anyone installed this themselves? Do I need to buy jacking pucks to lift the car up to install it?...
Not to get off topic, but if you own a C7 Stingray or Z06 I'd spend the money for some jacking pucks. Either the permantly installed type or just a set to thow in the cubicle in the cargo compartment.
As for skip shift. I'm in the just hold first a little longer camp and it is never a problem...besides is sounds great
I bought the CAGS eliminator because I had it on my C6Z, but haven't installed it since CAGS seems to be less of an issue on the C7Z. Looks like installation requires removal of the aluminum brace plate to access the solenoid. I suggest using a lift or service pit to do the installation. I would not recommend trying to install the CAGS eliminator using a jack and jack stands.
I installed it - pretty easy - you just need to locate the cable going int the trans box in the rear left hand side. You need to cut the tie strap, unplug it and plug the COGS into the wire. I used a new tie strap to hold it away from the pipes.
I have a lift so it was really easy. It would be a more of a struggle not being on a lift.
The lowest cost and least bothersome method is to learn to drive around it. CAGS only operates between the speeds of 14 and 20 mph under light throttle conditions. It activates in heavy traffic because everybody is driving slow and the operator chose to shift from out of 1st at a speed between 14 and 20. Shift before 13 or after 20 or push on the throttle a little heavier and it won't interfere. No safety issue since it doesn't interfere with high power operation. There is no harm shifting into 2nd gear at speeds over 10 mph as the engine can handle it.
It just isn't worth spending $20 or even getting under the car. On the C6 you could spend a couple of $ on a lighted fuse, blow it out and install it but it wasn't even worth spending the time or money on that since it is so easily defeated by your brain.
I had the eliminator on my C5. On my C6 I learned to drive around it. I know when it will kick in. I found that going from first to neutral then to second defeats the CAGS. Simple solution since you are usually in traffic going slow.
Like another poster already said, it will still go into second after a brief pause. When I actually take off slow enough for it to activate I'll notice 2nd being blocked just by feel and try again and it will go. I'm so used to it that I don't even really think about it as I'll basically do a quick double bump into second when I know it's going to activate. One thing I've noticed is it never seems to activate when taking off into a turn. Not sure if this is by design for safety or I'm just doing it wrong. Will have to test it later when this ****** cold weather clears. Of course all of this only applies when I'm driving ms daisy which is rare.
