OK, been gone from the forums for a long time. Glad to be back. Took a journey to the dark side and bought a Shelby. A beast, but not my thing.
Now, I have this new Z with 3900 miles and it blows one rear tire and the other is about to blow. had to buy new tires. So before you all start bashing me about smoking the tires, this is not my first rodeo. I don't need to spin the tires and that isn't the problem. One track of the tire, the second one in from the edge just wore out and delaminated on one side and is about to wear out on the other. The rest of the tire is ok. inflation wasn't the cause. I watched that. I am going to try and get some relief from Michelin.
next thing was nobody, not even Michelin has the tires. Went with the only two PS2's left in the country this side of San Diego. Anyone else seeing weird tire wear on the rears?
Randy
We're these tires frozen at some point during shipping?
Mine were not frozen. I got car on Dec 4. It was then put in my heated garage. Has been out in some cold track days though.
Wonder if GM will do something about them. Seems like that second section of tire is extremely flaky rubber. It comes off in pieces. Rest of tire looks good.

That is a good question. They maybe were not frozen while in the op's possession, but who knows from the time it left the Michelin plant. Would they be shipped in heated trucks? Either way, GM should replace those tires, it's bizarre that they would wear like that.
Can be big safety issue!!! With so few miles that should not be happening. GM will take responsibility to get with Michelin since that is GM who sold you the car.
Not good at all! Never saw that with Pirelli tires but those are different...
That said, looking at the pictures, it looks like that the tires have reached their end of life since you should usually replace them before touching the test marks.
So the question is more on why that after so few miles? Did you do some burn out???

I was told by 3 different sources that most all of the larger tire CO's that everyone was out of stock of the rears and they are on a nationwide back order. I even had a local tire shop owner get snippy with me about that he could get them not matter what. So I go over there and have never seen someone have to eat so much crow I thought he was going into shock. Hey if you can find them, that's great. I just don't know where. BTW this same owner said that he could mount and balance them, no problem. Then when he actually saw my car he just started shaking his head no. Geeez. I told him what I was driving. I think these guys just want to get you over there and try to sell you something else. Bait and switch maybe?

MOST tire shops have NO CLUE as to how big the tires are, nor the size of the rims and care needed to unmount/remount. They are used to dealing with mommie-mobiles and wanna-be racers (ricers) and the relatively lower specs.
To really have someone understand tire sizes, need to be dealing with a race shop and/or off-roading shop. They tend to have the understanding and equipment.
