Bought some nice tow hooks. Went to put the front one in and there are no threads in the slot for the hook. Has anyone else had this happen?
No, my tow hook screws in perfectly. Not something I'm leaving screwed in. Under the carpet in my trunk is the indentation for the tow hook, so I keep it there.
If you got some other aftermarket hook that doesn't have the M20x2.5 threads, then it won't screw in there. Many aftermarket hooks may have threads, but they are usually MUCH smaller than what is required, and they will go into the receiver and seem like the receiver isn't even there.
Or, it could be that you have a Z06 that didn't get the threaded receiver installed as it came down the assembly line like apparently all others did.

I had a burr at the threaded opening that prevented me from screwing the tow hook in. I borrowed a M20x2.5 tap and carefully started the tap, which removed the burr. Problem solved, tow hook screws in as it should. Double check and see that you don't have something that prevents you from engaging the first few threads of your tow hook.
So there are no threads in the front. The rear threaded hole is smaller than the tow hook I bought from ZL1 addons. Don't get me wrong these tow hooks are great. This is a GM thing. Suggestions?? I plan to call the dealer tomorrow
I would check the diameter of the hole and it might be as easy as running a tap in if you can do it straight......cut your own threads....or maybe the diameter isn't correct as the entire machining process was left out.
Not sure how that is attached, but I have to believe that it is buried into the structure in some form or fashion......share what you find out !
The front is threaded behind the plastic you can see in your pic. To thread the hook in you need to bend the grill up probably a half inch. I had the same issue as you. Give it another try.
I shipped one tow hook for the front or rear that did not have the threads chased. If anyone has it just call me and I will send replacement right away. The threads are all undersized about .015. One I shipped that did not have the chrome chased off.
