Default What does this mean?

Pardon my ignorance, but what does this (from the OM) mean?

Performing the brake burnish
procedure on a base brake
system can result in brake
damage.

Thanks!

Ron

Brake burnishing is done on the Z07 option brakes because the rotors and pads are carbon ceramic; the base brakes are not and the burnishing procedure would put them under extreme stress, it is designed to prepare the carbon ceramic braking system only.

^ I'm not sure that's correct.

If I'm not mistaken even the Z06s with non CC brakes have a BBK which requires it to be seasoned/bedded ... although differently than the CC brakes.

That quote from the manual might be referring to base Stingray brakes.

I'll try to find the section in the manual for context ...

-------------------------

ETA: Here is the Stingray Z51 brake seasoning procedure for track: http://www.chevrolet.com/content/dam...ckPREP_v23.pdf

I'm pretty sure the Z06 one (without CC brakes) is similar if not exactly the same.

Basically every steel BBK needs to be seasoned/bedded one way or another.

Actually there are three separate brake categories, the base "Stingray" brakes which do not have a burnishing procedure; the Stingray with Z51 and Z06 (without Z07) which have the same burnishing protocol; and the Z06 with Z07 which has a different burnishing protocol. The Z07 burnishing procedure would result in damaged brakes on the Z51 or Z06 without Z07 but when the manual refers to not performing any burnishing procedure on a base car this means the basic Stingray without Z51 option.
