OK, so I'm planning a road trip to the track Friday and I'm trying to pack everything I might need. Then it occurs to me that if I were to have a flat on the track OR the highway to/from the track, the run-flat feature may do me no good at all. Would there be a tire shop with a Cup 2 tire to be had anywhere near Mid Ohio track?? Or Columbus, OH?? I get 50 miles on the flat. After that, I'm looking at a long flatbed tow ($$) back home to Springboro!

Am I worrying too much or is this tire really pretty hard to find in stock? Anyone try to buy one off the shelf recently?

I had a puncture on my last track day, and limped the car back home 120 miles on the run flat at 55mph. Unlikely that anyone locally will have that tire in stock and would know how to instal it. But if mine lasted 120 miles it will likely manage the 140 or so miles you're dealing with. But to answer your question, since that episode a plug kit is now in my track bag.

If the cut is on the sidewall then it's flatbed time.

Thanks, Soulsea. Great idea! What plug kit do you recommend?

I can't directly answer your question but these concerns are just but one of the reasons why people who use their cars a lot for competition frequently go the truck and trailer route.

I bought this one: http://www.amazon.com/ARB-10000010-O.../dp/B004P91FCO but I've heard that in a pinch the much cheaper http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o00_s00 will also work fine.

I actually thought about that. But since this my 1st open track experience, I want to make 100% sure it is something I really enjoy before investing a boatload of cash to go that route.

I'll have my open trailer at the Mid-O event this weekend, if you run into trouble you can use my trailer and I'll drive the GT 3 back to Cincy. It's a black 2014, look me up if needed.

I got this one, it's small and does a good job.

I punctured a sidewall on my C5 and had I thought about preparing for it, I'd of kept a tire inflator, a puncture repair kit, and a roll of duct tape in the storage area. I think the duct tape would have allowed me to patch the puncture until I got to the tire shop. Driving on runflats isn't fun.
