Default Changing pads on carbon ceramics

Welp, after four track events it looks as if we need to change the front pads.

My question is, I don't see anything on the GM instructions on cleaning the rotors or getting the pad material off the rotors before installing new pads. Do you not need to do this for carbon ceramics rotors? Or if you do, then how do you remove the pad material? I don't know if sanding them is s good idea on these rotors...

Absolutely not. Do not do anything to those rotors. Let the calipers do all the work with new pads in them.

Thank you JVP. So no worries then about glazing over?

There's no "glazing" like with iron rotors.

What about cleaning the vent holes? Mine plugged up with pad material.

If we stick to the OP's subject matter of pad swaps, nothing needs to be (or should be) done to the rotors.

As for "plugged vents", I wouldn't worry about them until it's time to weigh your rotor. You'll need to do this to determine when to replace it. When weighing it, you want it as clean and dry as possible. So with that, remove the rotor and scrub it gently with nothing more than soap and water. Car wash soap is fine. Hose it down and let it dry.

Forgive me, I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering how many track days you got out of your rotors? I know it depends on the track and the driver, but I also know you are faster than me, so everything else equal you are harder on your rotors!!

I've done five track days this year, and the front pads are done. The rear pads are down to 8/32". From what I've read on this forum, that sounds about right...

Thanks!
Mike
