Default Autoweek Discusses Nurburgring and Z06/7

At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, I bumped into a guy who spends a ton of time (and money) at the Nurburgring. During a wide-ranging conversation with me and an another automotive journalist, he mentioned that Chevrolet had somewhat recently made a timed run at the Nurburgring Nordschleife in the 2015 Corvette Z06 with the Z07 package. The time was reportedly something like 7:08, which would place the most potent street-spec Corvette within a second of the 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo on the unofficial leaderboard. For those keeping score, that would place it behind a couple of Radicals, the Porsche 918 Spyder and the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce and possibly the Nissan for the overall record. Not bad.

According to our source, the Nurburgring's ban on "official" record attempts has kept Chevrolet from announcing a time.
Earlier this year, Chevy personnel claimed that they’d attempted a ‘Ring run with the Z06, but if memory serves, they were forced to scuttle the effort due to inclement weather. There’s some forum chatter that supports the 7:08 number, but nothing credible. We asked Chevrolet for a comment this morning, but until the Nurburgring lifts its ban on manufacturers publicizing lap times, don't hold your breath on a confirmation.

Makes sense. JVP said it went high up. I guess if it's not even in GM's hands, that's pretty high.

Also, remember the GTR wasn't a production car. It was a specially prepared "track pack" one off version just for the Ring time.

Chevy is using a completely stock Z07, which makes that number kind of unbelievable.

This doesn't make sense. If GM paid to run the course, with the expressed purpose of achieving the best time, and the ring accepted the money, then how on earth can they ban GM from owning that time simply because the ring decided to ban FUTURE runs of that nature??

It's not a ZR1, it's a 2006 Z06. And he's such a badass with it.

This whole issue reminds me of the constipation that took place when the C7 weight was mysteriously absent when introduced. Everybody was guessing what extra weight the Z51 option was going to add. Speculation was rampant. When it was finally disclosed all the facts about how the C7 gained weight to give more performance was put forth. Nothing new here. Keep everyone guessing and when the truth comes out give ample reasons to support how it could have been better.

First we're "clowns", now, we're a "delicate, whiny bunch".

So, which is it?

I won't speak for the others, just FYI, I am a waxer/poser/cruiser/etc C7 owner. And you are....what, exactly, other than being someone who posts simply to inflame (you must be very proud), and too lazy to type "you"?

Jimmy

PS. As a service to you, once you pass 30 years old, you should stop using "LOL" along with "u" and, if you are still wearing your hat backwards, stop that also.

AlexVY and Snowman have protested too much in their free flow urine exchange, and unfortunately neither seems to be able to let go. I would appreciate if people who need to attack one another would do it through private messaging and respect the intent of a thread.

On topic, after reviewing several threads regarding the Nurburgring, it may simply be that GM is not permitted to disclose the time, period, end of sentence (the simplest explanation). When was the last time announced ? If we go to that time and "watch", let's see if anyone else publicizes a time (testing my hypothesis). Best
