Default Check Engine Light (CEL)

(Long story but may be worth reading) Took the Z to a Car Show last Thursday. On my way stopped and topped off the tank. The Z sat in the hot sun all day long, with the hood up. At 9: PM we were let out of the show just as it was getting dark. Noticed that the CEL was lighted on the dash. I pulled into a gas station and checked under the hood to see if someone, as a prank, disconnected something and while I was at it, checked the oil level, and coolant level. Everything was fine. Checked the guages and all was OK. The next morning went to a Corvette Club breakfast and the CEL was still on. Went on the On Star diagnostic link with the iPad and still all A-OK. Finally in desparation called On Star from the car. The very helpful lady at On Star did their diagnostic and said "yep" the CEL indicated a number of possible problems and a trip to the dealer was called for, and being as helpful as she could be made contact with my local dealer's service dept for an appointment to bring in the car. The "Corvette Specialist" was kind of booked up and out travel schedule would require the appointment to be next Thursday. (Stick with me ~ this long story has a good ending) Went to the regular Cars and Coffee here in town this morning and bumped into (not with the car) one of the Co-owners of the Chevrolet dealership (a great car guy) and told him I had the CEL deal and that I had an appointment for Thursday. He said lets go check your gas cap. I was taken back, saying the cap doesn't come off for a bad seal issue there is just a spring loaded "trap door" ( like he doesn't know~ lol) He said let's check it anyway. When we opened the gas door everything looked normal but I pushed the flapper (trap door) open and let it close with my finger a couple of times and wiped, the seal area, also with my finger. Nothing found. Started the car and the CEL went out. What do ya know? So, just FYI if you get a CEL, give a wipe to the "door jam" of the flapper. Might just work.
