Default Swedish Magazine tests the C7 Z06

The Swedish magazine Teknikens Värld (Technology World) renowned for its powerful car tests and impact on manufacturers of vehicles not meeting normal driving abilities and safety has recently tested 24 world sports cars. The test was described in two issues of the magazine, and the 16 July issue now reveals the final results. The Corvette Stingray Z06 was one of the tested vehicles in Sweden.

First let me translate the article describing the Corvette before I get to the final results. Fastest ever in the test track speed results among any vehicle ever. Yes, you are reading correctly, 1.075 is the fastest ever time at our test track. Corvette C7 was part of our last year test and there reached third place after the McLaren 650S and Porsche 911 Turbo S. But now the Z06 is here with a compressor 6.2 liter engine offering 659 horses and 881 Nm torque.
Power has always been great from an American sports car. Worse has been how to get it to the road. But now this has finally been resolved, and the grip is awesome with the Z06. At the start at our test track it rumbles heavily and accelerates awesomely so the test driver gets scared. But thanks to chemical breaks the problem is solved and the car breaks well before next curve. Sadly enough, all the great features are not part of the standard package, but part of the Z07 Performance Package. Quality is very high and the only negative is that the car is long and wide. The Z06 is 5.7 cm wider than a regular C7, and the long hood makes it difficult to place in the curves on the track for us normal people. This is of course a training thing, and our test driver Edward Sandfström, who works full time in difficult race cars, seems totally in heaven in this Corvette.

The magazine tasted 24 sports vehicles, and please note that the Corvette Stingray Z06 in Sweden was priced at Euro 130,000.00, and the winning Porsche 911 GT3 was priced at Euro 1,393,00.00. The test results are listed below, and note that the Porsche did the best lap at 1.081 compared to the Stingray at 1.075! Here is a brief translation of the final test results:
A new world record at the Teknikens Värld test track Ring Knutstorp in Sweden was not set by the Porsche 911 GT3, but by the Corvette Z06. We having done the test have to report that we never had a chance to shift up from the third gear of the Corvette at our test. So much power has never been packaged so well in a vehicle before. Test drivers from Sweden, Denmark, and Finland were agreeing that the Porsche 911 GT3 was the winner, and the most fun which money can buy. The lap record placed the Corvette Z06 in second place. We thought it was fun that a new vehicle took on all the Germans.
The placement was:
1. Porsche 911 GT3
2. Corvette Stingray Z06
3. Porsche Cayman GT4
4. Mercedes AMG GT S

Yep, price disparity is non existent in Euro countries.

In Sweden the Z06 is a bona fide exotic.

Very cool. Some figures are off, like the HP. 650/650. Just so you know, drop the "Stingray" off of the name. That is for the base Corvette. Z06 is the correct terminology.

I think the hp and tq are in European equivalents.
Also isn't there a 100% tax on imported automobiles in Sweden? I'm not sure that is reflected in those price quotes.

I quickly glanced at the article. It says the Z06 broke their track record but it lists the GT3 as the fastest. Did I misread anything?

659 hp is probably a typo; 9 is right next to 0

881 Newton Meters = 650 Foot Pounds

The slight difference in how the SAE and EEC certify hp might account for that, too.

Z06 is rated at 659ps @ Europe. Just like the C6 Z06 was rated at 512ps and the C6 ZR1 at 647ps.

Corvette Z06 breaks track record at Ring Knutstorp but Swedish magazine Teknikens Värld puts it behind the number one slot. WTF?

PS is simply a slightly different protocol for measuring power. The net result is very similar to US values although not identical.

Has the Swedish car magazine tested a viper ACR?

I think, with 2000lb of downforce the Viper will be beating z07 on the track. Why GM wont do an ACR equivalent is beyond me. Limited run...they'd sell before they were built.

I'm betting the placement is how the judges ranked them, not fastest first. Just as Car and Driver assigns points for comfort and cost, etc. 2nd in that judging is very impressive when the costs as so close. Z06 didn't get the usual kick up for being the cheapest of cars tested. Thanks for your post.

The above might have had something to do with the final ratings but the Z obviously impressed everyone.

The price of the Porsche either has a 0 missing or a comma in the wrong place. Is it 1.39M or 139K?

Also, A C7 is EITHER a Stingray OR a Z06, two different models. Z06 is no longer an option or trim/performance level of the base car. Its a distinct model.

It is nice that the Z06 did so well in a Euro biased review. My american tastes do not favor the Porsche interior or comfort.

A USED stingray with around 1700 miles on it costs $80,000 where I live right now (Qatar). Couldn't be more excited to have a Z06 on order for when I move to the US in September at such a relatively cheap price.
