Considering a Mustang GT350R over a new Z06...am I crazy??

Hp/weight usually determines the trap speed. Normally aspirated Ferrari motors haven't had losses due to lack of torque.
The weight will clearly be less than a standard GT so 3650 we can pretty much stay with, and the Z/28 is really a porker at 3862, weighed by C&D. I haven't seen all the lap time comparisons, it was 1.51 seconds at Milford. Nor have I seen a 1LE at MRLS with the same driver but the GT500 isn't part of the discussion. If it were, it still beat the ZL1 at MRLS.
Put equal tires on the Mustang or 1LE and its a different ball game.

Not crazy... It is/will be a game changer... but I'd still get a Z06.

Well really its just weight then because 20hp more vs 40 trq more is splitting hairs at best. And what trap speeds? This is about lap times not drag racing
The weight of the Z28 changes with every test mag, and until we see the weight of the Ford then we can really only guess its around 150lbs less give or take.
The 1LE as I said was faster than the LS GT on every track both tested on( the info is easy to find) and as for tires? You do realize the LS had the P-Zero "Corsa" R comps at 60AA rated dont you?http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...t/viewall.html "The Boss' wheels are lightweight 19-inch racing alloys wrapped in Pirelli PZero summer rubber, while the Laguna gets wider 9.0-inch fronts and 10-inch rears wrapped in Pirelli Corsa R-compound tires"The same tires used on the Viper TA.
The tires on the 1LE are the 220AA Goodyear F1s. So whats this different ball game you speak of For what car?
The 1LE vs GT500 was just showing how dam good the 1LE is even when down so much hp and using the same tires even.
Seems you brought up the ZL1... The ZL1 beat the GT500 7 out of 9 tracks even with 100whp less and 200lbs more. But really that doesnt matter.
http://fastestlaps.com/comparisons/c...gt500_659.html
Anyways... this could go on and on So lets wait and see the what happens with the Z28 vs GT350
Regarding tires, I was referring to widths. Tread compound between manufacturers is only a general guide, just like lap times from non-pro drivers but good point on the LS. Fwiw, I put little emphasis on the MT Figure 8 time.
I've lapped the ZL1 and first gen. 1LE (wasn't therea revision to the 1LE within the 5th gen?) and while fun, neither would be my choice for track days. The ZL1 oversteered at the exit of turn 6. Never experienced that before.
It will be interesting to see what happens for sure!

I'm no Ford guy and certainly not a mustang fan, but they've always had great sounding exhaust IMO, and I even like the looks of this new mustang!
The best part is it appears that they finally have something to compete with against the camaro which means...the camaro will only get faster. What a win for fast pony car fans everywhere!!!
As to the question, Z06 or mustang though...the two are not even in the same league if you ask me.

Lots of info now on the GT350 since Ford Performance currently has a media and by invitation event at Laguna Seca (this week).
So finally, the media's GT350/GT350R reviews are starting to trickle out more & more...

Scraping the splitter.
It's very interesting how Ford closed off a big part of the grill opening and just left a smaller rectangle to feed the radiator.
For the '13/'14 GT500's, SVT removed the grill entirely, leaving the radiator and HE exposed for more air flow.

Indeed, interesting... and note the R has fangs and looks more restrictive while the non-R has a bigger rectangle cutout in the grille.

You run at Homestead...how about Sebring?

I'm typically at Homestead and/or PBIR (via PDG, FARA, and The HPDE groups) on a monthly basis depending on work travel... I was going to Sebring w/ HOD this weekend but with TS Erika on the horizon, I had to cancel that. On 9/20 I plan to do Sebring for the PCA HPDE. On Oct. 13th I'm at Sebring for the GT350 North American Tour via invitation which is similar to what Ford Performance is currently doing now in LS. I'm also targeting Daytona with PDG this Oct. Sooner or later, we'll get to cross paths Sean!

Very cool car that fills a market segment that has seemed to vanish in the last few years. Just wish they put more effort into making it light. 3,700#s is kind of portly (heck, the Vette put on a lot of weight too), but it'll still be a blast.
One of these in Race Red to compliment a Laguna Blue Z =)

I think Ford gave this guy a press car with a missing shift ****.
After a horrible attempt at downshifting around 1:22, he stayed in the same gear (3rd) the entire way around the track while maintaining a death grip on the steering wheel.

Yeah those videos don't do the car any favors. Looks really slow. Clearly it's not the cars fault though.

The vid. is highly entertaining, in a perverse sort of way.
