Tinting laws vary by State Statute and the enforcement of said laws varies as well. A good reputable shop will tint accordingly. Here in NM you can tint side/rear windows 20% that does not imply I'm legal in a State that does not allow side windows to be tinted. I had mine done with a material rated at 20% but when the tech put a reader on the window it was 18%. Also had a "clear" film installed on the front windshield which reduces heat and UV rays by 90%.
