Default C7 Z06 Avoid Crash

Guys i know this video has been posted before but everyone got carried away with complaining about the driver and making comments about how this should not be done on a public road. I also own a Z06 and started this thread with the intent of learning from this guys mistake. I have also read the manual and i know that there are a lot of other people here who also read it and it still not very clear. I'm hoping we can all learn from this and maybe save another Z06 owner from making the same mistake.

1) If you are going to do a drag race what is the best mode to be in to avoid this kind of accident?

2) I know he used launch control and that's only active until you lift your foot off the gas, which i assume he did to shift. I have an automatic so does that mean if i were going to drag race and use launch control that i'm supposed to floor it completely the entire time since i don't need to shift?

3) Or is the best way to drag race regardless of the mode is to not count on the nannies and just slowly increase speed. Still would be good to have some kind of nanny turned on probably.

Sorry to say but the mode did not cause the accident, the driver did. Car let loose, driver stayed on gas, car ended up in the trees. Mine broke loose the other day, took foot off gas and it straighted right up again and then I was back on throttle. If you are in a drag race, slowly adding throttle is just a sure way you are going to lose. If you want to drag the car, do it safely and you need a lot of practice to do it effectively and handle the unforeseen issues without panicing, less you wind up in the trees...or worse

This has been hashed over before, but if you look carefully at the front wheels, there was no correction when the car started heading for the trees. The driver kept on the throttle and the car went the direction of the front tires. No nanny will help that type of driving.

The best modes to avoid that kind of accident is weather mode or wet PTM mode.

Or actually driving the car vs. expecting it to drive itself would be another option.

Has there been any input from this driver as to what they think happened? I agree with comments made that it really does appear that there wasn't a reaction to the hard right. But, I'm curious to hear what the driver's comments might be or where is the PDR info???

just sayin....

Yea, I'd like to hear from him too. I've seen this one other time at the dragstrip and I just don't understand it. I've had my C6 spin in second gear, WOT literally hundreds of times and it never did a right turn like that. Of course, it does move and I suppose I counter without even thinking about it but this footage makes it look like something broke. Maybe he'll tell us.

you are absolutely right. it looks like he even steered the car to the right instead of trying to correct it back towards the left to straighten it out.

anyone who hasn't driven a high powered car equipped with limited slip differential needs to play with it in a big, uncluttered area with no objects to hit and learn firsthand what happens when you punch the accelerator. if you can't do that, then you need to attend a driving school.

No.
Wrong.
Older Corvettes and other cars don't have those modes.
It requires a Driver change!

Root cause failure analysis is...
High performance car.
Low performance driver.

I agree. It appears that may have been the first time he ever drove a car with that much power. Maybe it was his first time even driving a rwd vehicle and just came from driving civics all his life. We won't know unless he jumps on here and tells us his background.

I can tell you a story about the guy who purchased my C5Z w/ a supercharger and wrecked it the very next day. He punched it WOT with all the nannies off in cold weather while changing lanes in 1st gear! It was his first time driving a high horsepower car and it obviously showed.
