Obvious question. You put the car in park right? I have a BMW and Range Rover that I am used to hitting the start/off button after I enter the garage to turn the motor off. Doing this automatically kills the motor and puts the vehicle in park. Trying this with the A8 gives me the same error message.
Probably a fault with the switch or its connector in the transmission that indicates selector position. Moving the shift selector around slightly in the park "detent" might allow you to shut it off if it is an adjustment problem but in any case it is time for dealer involvement. Should be a simple fix.
Tried everything. Did the wiggle moves on the shifter. Was in park. What was funny, is that the tow truck guy didnt believe me when he got there. It was 11pm when I got home. His exact quote was "Im sure I can figure this out, it's not my first rodeo". He tried and could not get it to turn off. I didnt have the heart to tell him that 1. I have had the car for 6 months 2. That I stop the human heart, then operate on it, then restart it on a daily basis. 3. no one at onstar could figure it out.
regardless, none of us could turn it off.
I did google the error while waiting for tow, did return some results on other cars. Nothing solid, but like the other poster: wiggle the shifter, dont forget to put it in park, etc
curious to see the issue. I hope its not transmission.

Please keep us posted when ever you find out, this will be good to know for future reference
waiting for corvette tech to look at car. regular service people do not know what the problem is.
Maybe you need to hit the thing with your paddles. If they can cure a defibrillation, maybe they'll shock you car out of park. I'd try to help, but I've never done a root canal on an A8.

We had a car come in for service with the same issue as yours and it ended up we needed to adjust a linkage for the transmission since it was never tightened down properly from the factory. I hope it gets resolved!

Car fixed. I havent picked up car. I was told that it was a Electronic error from the Park sensor to the VCU. Basically when it was placed in Park, the car thought it was in Drive and the VCU did not allow any of the electronics to turn off.
They told me GM corporate looked at the car and asked my permission to take photos of what the car did when it was placed in park and the old parts.
Im glad the car did not turn off at home, would of sucked if at work or driving for a trip.
