I got my first Vette, a 2016 Z in July and I do extend a wave to all Vettes that go by, not all recipricate but most do. I was wondering though, do you wave at other Vette owners driving theirs when you are not in your Vette? Just curious.
Ah yes a long practiced vette tradition that seems to be dying with the C7 crowd
I always wave at other corvettes when I'm driving in mine. I must agree that it does seem like a lot of C7 owners don't. Come on guys... Save The Wave!
That's sad. The "wave" has been a fun part of owning a Corvette (and a motorcycle or a Jeep) for a really, REALLY long time now. Porsche drivers and Ferrari drivers rarely wave at one another, but Corvette owners have maintained the tradition for 60+ years now.
Even today with thousands of them on the road, owning a Corvette is still a special thing. You are part of a fairly rare group. Every mile in your car you are followed by tons of history, racing success and general American bad-assery. It seems like a small token to offer a simple wave to another fellow owner, who had the good sense to also buy such a special car.
There is certainly no obligation to initiate the wave, but try to return it if you see it in time. If you don't feel like its "cool" then that's fine, just know that a few of us are going to think you are probably a gold chain wearing poser who has no appreciation for the Marque
Yes........I wave at other corvettes when I am not in my corvette (if I am walking or driving); when my top is off, I also wave to other sports cars with their tops off; when I had my orange and yellow corvettes, I would also wave at other orange and yellow cars...........in all of these above situations most always waved back.
I do know that a lot of newer corvette owners do not even know about the wave. They don't know about the Corvette Forum and do not belong to a corvette club. I know this because in my town there are several folks that bought their 1st corvette in the past several years, and not one of them knew about the wave...........and even after I told them, most are still hesitant and do not initiate it.
When in my corvette I try to waive to all other corvettes, but sometimes I just can't because of the traffic; I may be in between shifts; or I didn't see them in time; etc. So, when I don't get a wave in return, I just assume they didn't see me in time or were in between shifts, etc. as well.
I wave every time I see another Corvette. I've missed the wave once or twice, and feel bad every time I do it. In fact, I'll wave to Corvettes on the other side of the highway if I think there's a chance they'll see me.
Sometimes I forget I'm not driving the 'vette and wave when driving my Colorado (still a Chevy).
Side note: I also flip off Dodge diesel Rams when they try to "role smoke" on me.
