Default Removing Side Skirts.

So I just had a thought if you remove side skirts by drilling out the rivets (no biggie at all) and then remove the button head.

Then the piece of the river on the inside of the rocker would then wind up floating around inside the rocker panel making rattle noises or is there a relief to fish the old rivet ends out of the rocker?

This is what keeps me up at night...lol

Thanks!

OR you can use Wellnuts that can be removed!
I did and you don't have to drill out anything, and they are secure with security head screws so no easy removal without key.

I stayed up several nights to get this correct.

The rocker isn't a rocker like on other cars. It is part of the door opening surround and is glued to the frame. When you get under the car you can see between the frame and the rocker. There is space between the frame and the so called rocker so the rivet heads will fall out the bottom and on to the ground.

The top rivets are not in a totally enclosed space?

innocent question: Why would you want to remove the side skirts? Are they damaged? Tired of the look?

I have no side skirts on mine but it didn't take me long to see that without them the car will be sandblasted in no time...so I am anxiously awaiting delivery of my ACS side skirts and OEM splash guards for me to install.......

I love the clean look without them but the sandblasting will drive me nuts (I already have had the rockers xpeled.....but that won't be enough I think......)......

I installed CF side skirts on my Z51 (not a Z06) and to avoid drilling into the aluminum frame inserted a 3/16 inch thick piece of scrap aluminum between the rocker panel and the frame before drilling each rivet. The rocker panel just pulls away from the frame with your fingers. The SMC is flexible. If I need to replace a side skirt would also use a scrap piece of metal in the gap, drill out the rivet and remove the inside part. (I didn't loose one minute of sleep thinking about it, although did for some other mods!)

Did you install OEM skirt? I installed ACS and it has upper and lower rivets.

So in the instructions it shows a cross sectioned drawing by ACS that shows the transmission line in an enclosed space.

the upper ones I am concerned would not drop out in the case of replacement.

Can anyone verify this?

I am think ahead is all.

I installed the same set up and like it!

My bet is you will dig it too!

Cheers!

Thanks!

So the jury is still out however if the top row of rivets has a way to be blown out of rocker.
The bottom is a no brainer, but the top set?

Would seem as the auto trans version has a coolant kline running through it that there would be a way to remove rivet stems after drilling the heads off but still no one has posted that they have done it. Cheers!

I just had the ACS skirts installed (very happy) but yes they are riveted on both the side and bottom of the rocker. Before I pulled the trigger on this I found the installation instructions for the OEM skirts and they do the same (but holes are in slightly different positions). But it seems to me if you ever remove the side skirts for some reason you will have to replace the entire rocker body panel anyway since it would have lots of holes in it!

Top row? I removed the oem skirt to wrap 13 on each side if I remember right. Drilled the head off pushed the rivet in the rocker. Used the same holes to put back on M7.Only lines I could see were by the oil tank passenger side just behind fender

So the "side" rivets just left the "stem" part inside the rocker or could you blow out the old rivet debris?

Otherwise what happens to debris it just rattles around in rocker or did they all drop out?

I ask as the ACS version instructions show a cross section illustration of rocker that makes it look like it is an enclosed are where side rivets go in.

Thanks I am trying to get a grip on this in case I have to replace them at some point from road rash or remove to respray etc....

Yes they all came out count to make sure everyone comes out. You can see with a flash light the bottom of the rocker is glued in about 6 spots along or to the frame. I would think if you ran over a rivet it would stick in your tire

How did you get the back part of the river out?

It just falls on the ground eventually. The rocker panel is open under the car. The door surround wraps under the frame but is only glued to the frame in certain spots. The rocker area isn't sealed.
