Default Intercooler bleed valve/plug? Pic attached...

Hey guys,

What is this gold "plug" in the Intercooler tubing? Is this a bleed valve if we get air in the system? After reading what happened to GM at the Road & Track test, I would like to make sure that my system is working properly. To add to my confusion, I recently added the Granatelli Intercooler expansion tank. I could very well have air in the system but I have no way of knowing.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

John

Anyone know what this plug is used for? I don't want to remove it until I know for sure. Thanks!

Is it a plug that must be removed or a valve that can be opened? If the former, I'd leave it alone. If the latter, it could be more interesting.

Most of us who have air in the intercooler fluid can see it in the top part of the intercooler reservoir.

I really have no idea, which I why I'm asking. The addition of my Granatelli tank definitely makes this more interesting. I have an e-mail in to them as well, but still waiting to hear back.

That is the bleeder valve for the intercooler system. Adding the Granatelli tank makes no difference in anything. But here's a quote from a Granatelli rep on the tank being installed in the Z06.

"The beauty of our system is that the top of our tank sits higher than the supercharger cores so all the air bleeds out without the need for a bleed screw under pressure."

Remove the top of the tank and fill/run the system. Make sure its full and then button back up.

i believe i had air in my intercooler cooling system (when i removed the hose to install the expansion tank no fluid leaked out). The car was pulling timing badly and was dramatically low on power at the track and on the street. I recently had the blower ported so it was removed and most likely happened then. i could not figure out what the issue was so i called Jeremy at Fasterproms and he suggested the expansion tank. He said if the system had air in it that it work be purged when the tank was added. I installed the tank and the beast is back! i almost forgot how ridiculously fast this car really is. so, my experience with the expansion tank has been a very positive one.

Glad to hear that it worked for you. I've noticed that my mph has really fallen off the last two events. My last event I noticed my timing was between 13-14 at WOT. Only at 10 at the very end of the run! The weird part is each day had 'one' run that was pretty decent. Air quality was awesome (near zero DA). I should've been putting up killer times! I figured it had to be the (new) expansion tank, fuel or the fact that the car is "learning" the Halltech intake? No idea. Very frustrating though. I def didn't expect my times to get worse with perfect DA. 60's were exactly the same at 1.62 all day. Bummer!

Remove the mods and run again. I doubt that anyone on the forum can diagnose from afar.

Next spring I will be installing my stock intake on zero DA days and testing the difference at the track. Maybe someone else can test my theory before next spring. It needs to be cold out though. My car runs very hard in 70-80 degree days with the Halltech. I don't really care about dyno reports. I've seen the difference first hand at the track and I'd like to know the culprit.

Is there a torque spec for these bleed valves?

If you overctighten them is it game over like the brake caliper bleed valves?

I would think it would be a good idea to just crack open the bleeder a little to let out any air every once in a while.
