Default Tire question

Hi all

I just picked up a backup set of wheels for my Z06/Z07 for the track. I'm putting the SC2's on the new set and I'm putting street tires on the other set.

What comes stock on the Z06 w/o the Z07 package and does everyone like them? Any better suggestions or luck with another brand or type?

Michelin Pilot Super Sports -- they kick ***. The other option is Continentals - check out Tire Rack, they will show you exact OEM sized tires. I'd go with the MPSS if you can, they are more expensive but last pretty well, 15k-30k miles.

IMHO, I'd also take a good look at Pirelli P-Zeros. Very good performance, no tire chatter/hop at full lock turns, and IMHO they look better than the PSS's. Porsche and even Camaro Z28's use them as OEM. They are also available in exact replacement sizes.

When I plug in our OEM sizes on Tire Rack's site, I get only Continental and Michelin tires, no Pirellis.

This is true for the 911 but the Z28 uses a P-Zero Corsa - a horse of a different color. Plus not available in OEM sizes.

The P-Zero's (in exact run flat replacement sizes) I have on my Z06/07 are not Corsa's you are correct. However, I believe they are both TWI (tread wear index) #220. Michelin SS's are TWI #300 (harder compound). Regardless of the color of the horse, the Pirelli's I have stick extremely well (even better than my Michelin PSC2's on courses where there is small stones that imbedded in the PSC2's that I had to dig out of the tread with a screwdriver. Not trying to sell Pirelli's, just making the OP aware there are other choices (albeit I guess, the Tire Rack wants to keep it secret).

UTQG ratings for UHP tires are not a very good indicator of grip.

For example, a Sumitomo HTR Z III has the same 300tw rating as the MPSS.
