Easy Michelin Pilot Super Sport ZP (MPSS) Mounting
My very competent, local tire shop struggled for 6 hours to get my new Michelin Pilot Super Sport ZP tires mounted without success. They tried the Murphy's Tire Mounting Compound discussed in other threads without success. They said it made an ungodly mess and still could not get the tire to seat.
The shop got so frustrated they contacted a friendly competitor and asked if they had any suggestions. The competitor stated they mounted many of the MPSS ZP tires without any issues. My shop took one of my wheels/tires to them and got it to seat in seconds.
They used a silicon based product called Quick Seat Tire Lube. This lube is viscous gel which is lightly applied with a sponge or rag around the bead. My tire guy was amazed. He said using the lube made seating the bead a non event. Said it made it as easy to seat as any "normal" tire. The competitor he went to sells the product so he bought a gallon jug for his shop for $35. Upon returning to his shop he had my other three tires seated within minutes and no mess like you get with the Murphy's lube.

My dealer had such a time getting one of my rear tires inflated they now charge $100 per tire for the install of any of these tires! Used a rubber hose to seal the bead.

I live in Tulsa. Quite the coincidence that the inventor of this product is Dino Hux, owner of Dino's Tire and Wheel in Tulsa. Dino's is an independent shop and the place my tire guy went to when he couldn't get the tires to seat. Dino invented the product due to the difficulty they were having mounting the new generation low profile, run flat tires like the Michelin's. FWIW, I have no affiliation or vested interest.....
Interesting to watch his demonstration video provide in the link below. They use a Corvette wheel and tire in the demo....

I recently went to a local America's Tire store with a finish nail installed in my front left. After all the horror stories 4 months ago about tire mounting issues I was hesitant to see about a repair. After weeks of tiresome airing of my tire, I decided it was time and if issues came about I would have them install my Conti's.
So, I first asked if they would patch my "z" rated tire as I don't plan on over 100 generally. These guys opened hood, trunk, doors to jack one side. I figured they open doors anticipating body flex of which was very surprising to have little at all.
Tire was off, patched and aired up in 25 minutes. All at no charge.
I slipped the tech a $20.00 (woohoo, I know, big deal) but did thank him for a great job.
BTW, I did take a 20" bicycle inner tube with as a gap sealer if needed. That's how we mounted too narrow a tire on our fat rims as kids back in the day.
I didn't see them use any tire lube, but maybe... Great find.

I haven't watched the vid yet, but it really sounds like a great product. The only concern or question I have is, does the silicone cause the tire to potentially slip on the wheel under hard acceleration (torque)? I realize it may be very slight risk of doing so, but just a question. Thanks for the info. I will share it with others.

They can be trouble but I have been lucky my dealer trades all 4 to different rims for 140.00. Just got my nickels to powder coat gloss black. No problems but they do use the lube. Good to spread the word

Are you saying they use the Quick Seat Tire Lube shown in this thread or just a lube in general ???

Just a thought but when my tire shop swapped my rims out the owner said to take it easy for a day or so. Presumably this was because the tire lube could cause slippage between the rim/wheel if it wasn't fully cured/dissipated, etc. I'm pretty sure that was a water based lube (a few years ago). Anyone else ever get this warning? I wonder how that's going to work with silicone.

I tried contacting them for this quick seat tire lube, no response yet, email bounced,
I had to order Michelin Pilot Supersport ZP as one of MY rear PS2 gave up. Got supersport ZP for $1774 @ tirerack (with mail in rebate ). My rear PS2 has been leaking air , i tried filling but it keeps losing pressure to 19psi, I might have hit a nail, they are @4500 miles, I guess runflats are not repairable.
Very disappointed i got only 4500 miles on these , I Should have ordered supersport on day1 and kept the cup2s only for track. May be if i can find a used Cup2 tire i can still use them for a couple of track days.
