Default PS Cup tires

Hello. I have just purchased a 2015 Z06 with Z07 package and have a quick question about the tires. They have 2k miles on them and I do not plan on tracking the car. It was tracked once by the previous owner and he stated that he didn't drive it hard as he's a novice. So my question is, what kind of lifespan do these tires have under normal driving conditions? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance guys.

Not positive, but I think they are only rated for like 7-9k under normal driving. Maybe some others will chime in and confirm or correct me.

I had the Cup 2s for 800 miles and bought Continentals DW's which was the best thing I did. They drive on the street much better then the "track" tires you have. Or suggest Michelin Pilot Sports that the regular Z06 comes with if there available.

You will be able to sell the Cups to track guys.

I have what I'd call very mild street miles on mine - backroads (mostly) and some highway miles, no launches, no real aggressive throttle action (I'm still scared to death) , absolutely no burn outs, & no track days at all, currently they've got 12,000 miles with still more to go - from looking at the wear indicator I'd say they will make it to 15,000

-- with winter coming up in NY, I'm looking at the Pirelli replacement street tire (the pirelli's are not run flat, and are not exactly the same size, but do fit correctly, being only a few mm's different)

Yes, the orig cup tires were lower range, 8-9k miles but these cup 2's will last longer.

Thanks for the answers thus far guys. Perhaps I don't have the Cup 2s as the window sticker says "PS Cup Tires" or is that just standard language and the Z07 package always comes with Cup 2s? (I don't have the vehicle in my possession yet to just look at the tire.)

Mad Dog -- I am about to buy the DWs, which I have on two other cars. Since they are not run flats, what do you do should you get a flat? Did you buy one of those 'inflate canisters'? I now have the ZPs and want to use them for track days on a different set of wheels. Thanks. Frank

I bought this tool to plug a tire on the side of the road, http://www.aerostich.com/tools/tire-...ultralite.html . We use something similar at our shop, tread area only. But if your on the side of the road who cares plug it! Also I bought at Wal-Mart a small kit of green gue and a compressor. It fits in the little storage area drivers side rear compartment of the C7. I take it everywhere in all my cars for any trip, piece of mind! Frank I'm doing the same thing with track set up. The Contis really suck on the track although great if you like drifting, LOL!

Baron, I read your post.... did Michelin change the Cup 2's compound to last longer from what came on the 15 Z06's.

This is great. Thanks. One more question: do you think worn ZPs (original equipment on Z06 -- not Z07) would be fine for a few average track days? Nice picture of your car at The Glen. Appreciate your thoughts on this.

I thought ZP's were the Cup 2's tires but may be wrong. To answer your question yes some wear is fine for average track days. I think for experience sometimes a little slip in and a slid in helps.

About 12K street miles (give or take 2K depending on how you drive) are to be expected out of the PSC2s... I have a set for sale in the F/S section if you'd like a backup set of rears for a great deal!

Thanks for your response -- very helpful. The ZPs (or Super Sports) came on non-Z07 Z06s. The Cup Michelins came on the Z07. Frank

I personally took mine off and sold them to a track car owner. The PS2 tires will start to harden after a couple of years especially after a lot of heat cycling but on anything but dry pavement they are dangerous. Just keep that in mind-----or if you are ever caught in the rain try it out yourself but be careful.....

The MPSS (base Z06 tire) are not much better in the rain, based on my experience. Could simply not evacuate water above 55-60mph in a heavy rainstorm. This is the first Michelin tire I have ever seen that does not do well in the rain.

Are you on the Corsa, or the "regular" P Zero?

ZP is Michelin-speak for zero pressure, also known as a run flat tire. The tires on Stingrays and Z06s are Pilot Super Sport ZPs and Z07s come with Pilot Sport Cup 2 ZPs. Both of these tire models come in various ZP and non-ZP sizes, but all C7 vettes come with ZP tires from the factory.
