With someone else complaining that the recent updated bricked their nav, it might be wise to let the dealer do it. I don't think I would want to take responsibility for that particular piece of equipment.
No, not at all.. My PDR quit working altogether which is why I went in for the upgrade.
I asked for the PDR, climate control and entertainment system update.
That happened to me when I had my Z51. I told the dealer to follow GM bulletin and upload the new PDR software through an SD card in the glove compartment. The technician decided to do it through a USB slot or something else and killed the car computer. I got dead screen and cluster digital display was gone. The first two replacment modules that the dealer ordered came with another car vin already on them (they were used). On the third trial they ordered a new module straight from the factory and the issue was fixed.

This seems to be relatively common. Rather than use the SD card reader in the glovebox, they use the USB and end up freezing it up.

Folks might want to consider bringing an SD card with them to the dealer. I realize they shouldn't have to but I think the fact that most shops don't have the SD card drives them to try the USB method instead. At my dealer the tech actually ran out and bought an SD card just for this.
Let the dealer do it when you bring it in for something more significant.
The update helps colorization a little, but there is much more to be gained in a later update. Wait, if you have nothing else. Mine usually ends up at the dealer every few months for something.
Just back from the dealer and they didn't have the cable either. He did give me the file on a usb drive. Has anyone tried copying the file to a sd card on a laptop then inserting the sd card directly into the pdr in the glovebox? In other words install the upgrade from an sd card.

The update is supposed to be through the SD card slot in the glove box. The issue is that some dealers are trying to update through the USB, and that's causing problems. I've read two or three cases here where that's what happened.

How big is the file? Wouldn't mind getting a copy of it myself.
Cliffs:
- PDR not working, into dealership for repair
- car stuck a dealer for over 15 days & still not repaired
My car is still at the dealership.. I initially took it in on 11/21 and today makes day 15. She sits in a service bay.
The dealer blames GM, they say their hands are tied as they're constrained by GM's tech line on repair approach, guidance and approvals.
The dealer believes they've isolated the problem to a cable and by the time they received approval from GM to order and replace the cable. They expect to have the cable in by Monday of next week.

What an absolute nightmare
I doubt it's just a cable issue. I had the same problem last month and they ended up replacing the whole computer module. Who is your dealer?
Contact Chuck at Selman Chevrolet in Orange (warranty manager). He went through the process and fixed my car. Maybe he can guide your dealer or tell them what needs to be done. It can be fixed in one day.

My dealer is Win Chevrolet over in long beach.. Thanks for info & referral - I'll reach out to Chuck.,
This is attempt #3 for them and if they don't get it right this time - I'm going to be looking to replace this (lemon), likely due to dealer incompetence. Would replace w/ another Z07.

What a huge headache..
I bet it's the same problem I had and Chuck solved it once he was assigned by the owner of the dealership to get to the bottom of it.

Right. What I am thinking of doing is copying the file on a blank formatted sd card then insert it in the pdr slot in the glovebox to do the upgrade. I'll check the size of the file ang post it.
