Does anybody's "Tire Temperature" readout ever read anything other than "warm?" (orange). (non-Z07, factory tires)
I have driven my Z06 in temps in the high '80's and in the high 30s (just to test them; I won't be doing that too much!), for many miles at all temps. Tire temp reading, from startup to shut down, is always "warm."
Have not tracked it yet so I don't know if they would ever read "hot." So is this normal, in which case I should assume the gauge to be worthless, or is mine likely not functioning properly? SW reflash?
Yes, but the reading never changes whether the car is parked inside or outside, for long periods of time. And this morning's garage interior temp was 39 degrees.
They will show frozen, cold, warm in normal weather. They have to be very cold to go to cold, then really, really cold to show frozen.
You'll never get to "hot" status on the street. It takes a track for that. It works well to show when they're ready for hard driving.
In your experience, should 39 degrees F show up as "cold" or "warm?"
On a tire that is declared by the MFR to be unsafe below 45 degrees, I would think that it should show "cold" at 39.......
Maybe I will just have to "play" with it through the winter and on some spring track days to see what it does. Does anyone know if these tire temps are driven by a special sensor, or is it just a software approximation based on ambient temp and recent driving data?

You have to realize that these temperatures are coming directly from the ICs in the TPMS, and such things lose accuracy the cooler they are typically as they're built usually to determine when a max temperature is met.
I don't remember the exact temps (and I've sold both my C7s at this point), but I do remember the car would show warm on morning that were below what I considered safe on the tires. I'm pretty positive around 40 was still "warm". I seem to remember "cold" happening somewhere under freezing and "frozen" being in the teens.
Basically, they're kind of worthless for anything but knowing when the tires are hot for track duty.

I'm curious where 45 degrees comes from. While my '15 owner's manual has a couple tire warnings, none reference 45 F. The warnings for PS Cup 2s say don't operate below 50 F or 10 C. Warnings PSS say only to use winter tires if you frequently operate below 40 F, and warm tires to 40 F before use if they have been subjected to temps below 20 F.
Btw- I see tires showing cold in the mid to high 30s F. Have operated my Z in temps down to 20 F, although I usually drive my truck if it's below freezing.
