This sounds like a new 1. At least, my SA, salesman, mechanic, and audio tech have never heard of it.
Leaving work to go get the 500 mile oil change today, got in the car, and an audio message from On Star came on, something about using it for nav. It played twice, and then my radio died. Not the screen, just the sound.
When I turned the volume up and down, it changed the phone volume, but the phone wasn't on. I disconnected it, still nothing. Turned it off, nothing.
I tried playing with the settings in the DIC, and all I could find was "Audio Off", with no way to turn it back on.
I got to the dealership, and the SA tried everything again, no luck. He tried researching it while the oil was being changed.
After the oil change, their audio tech just happened to walk in, so the SA sent him to take a look at it. As soon as he got in, everything was fine.
Yes, I had basically the exact same thing happen to me, and it was an OnStar cut-in that triggered it. I, also, could not remedy at that moment, but restarting the car later that day- all was fine and has been ever since (I let OnStar lapse).

Everyone needs to understand that offstar is now an independent company.

The exact same thing happened to my car. The volume would only turn the phone up and down (but no sound from a phone call would work) and my XM was locked on one station (display being stuck also on one song). Later in the day I noticed it was fine. Triggered by the stupid OnStar.
Has anyone found out what causes the audio off on the dash and how to fix it. My audio has stopped working and going thru the dash came across the audio off. Was there a fix? I tried touching the onstar buttons but nothing happens. My radio is blank

Anyone had anything like this happen?
how old is the battery. These cars do weird things if the battery isn't perfect or near perfect. The battery may seem fine but all sorts of weird stuff like this happens and miraculously disappears with a 100 percent fresh new battery
