Was just washing the car noticed something around this rear spoiler screw. It wouldn't wash off so I got a socket to remove the screw-it took about 1 oz of pressure and the screw head came off leaving this ugly mess. What the hell's going on-This Z06 was built in Sep and a screw is
corroding like this? Man this is not a confidence builder. Anyone ever have this happen? Off to the dealer Monday..........
Two folks mentioning gluing a broken screw into place-man that's scary-but I agree-I probably could have pulled the head off with my finger nails. So, this would have been done at the dealership?
I'm pretty sure that spoiler section is installed during the PDI. If so, the dealer owes you a new left side spoiler, as the paint is messed up from the "glue". Good luck...
Remember, be nice about it. Unless they get stupid.
The screw is probably broken off in the insert in the base spoiler. All of that crud and glue is on the stage 1 wicker that's bolted to it.
So hopefully they can pull off the left side wicker, use a screw extractor to pull out the broken piece, and reinstall a new wicker.

and I guess there is a broken screw stuck in the base? The car was first at the dealer's Vero Beach site and I bought it at there Ft Piece site-so the guilty party probably won't be around. Maybe I'll ask to see the "big boss"
This will be covered by warranty. A human being screwed up, and the service department and/or the selling dealer should have been up front about the cobbled repair but was not, but this will end well (though sure understand temporarily it sucks).
Most likely the Service department didn't know about it. Some PDI employee at the dealership was trying to cover up his mistake. Probably didn't let anyone else know. I wouldn't blame the dealership or the Service department because they weren't aware of the mess up.
Yuk... The hiccup now of course is having an ethical dealership, rather than one that turns it around and states it must have happened after delivery and you are the one trying to cover. Good luck and keep us informed.

The name of the person who did the PDI will be on the paperwork, the dealer will know who did it and I'm guessing will question them. As others have said it should be covered by the dealer.
I don't support this practice but I expect stuff like this is not uncommon. Had the owner not looked carefully while washing his Z06 or had the dealership employee been a little more careful with his adhesive cover-up attempt it probably would never have been noticed. That doesn't justify it from our view as owners but from the dealership point-of-view most of these "repairs" are never caught by the owners.
Another one of the reasons why I do my own oil changes and other normal maintenance since I care more about my stuff than the person working on them who doesn't have the luxury of working at a careful pace.
This kind of thing happens more than you know and even at the factory. I have heard of epoxy being used to glue on pieces when interior trim panels have a faulty clip. You would never know until it comes time to remove the panel.
Let's go back to that pik just a bit There are gouges on the outside of the screw hole...Did you not notice them? As well, that hole is far to big compared to the original I think. Does it appear that they actually cut the hole of the spoiler bigger to accomodate gluing the screw back in? It is one thing to sy the bolt was broken and screwed but this appears to be a spoiler replacement doesn't it? It almost appears that they fixed it with a super-adhesive or crazy clue and when you removed the plug, it actually ripped the surface of the the spoiler panel. Post a pik before you noticed...Im sure you have one with that stunning car.

It appears the dealer's main mistake was not using strong enough glue!
Hopefully, it did not damage the base of the spoiler and they can just replace the extension.
In the photo, it does not even look like the base of the screw is in the hole??

You are right. A new wicker has been ordered. Service manager says he'll show me what's under that mess and how they plan to get it fixed-if I can't be there, he will send pics.
