Default Racing shoes?

So I just signed up for spring mountain. They recommended that I wear a good pair of driving shoes, or flat bottomed shoes?

Should I order a set of racing shoes? Or just wear a set of sperry topsiders, or sneakers or something?

What are your thoughts? If its racing shoes, what do you recommend?

My suggestion is a pair of Puma, Sparco, etc. driving shoes.

Barefoot.

It worked well for Fred Flintstone.

Unless you're going to be doing regular track duty there's no need to invest in racing shoes.

A pair of lightweight sneakers like the Nike Free will work great.

I like the Pilotis - what did you not like about them?

Ideally you want something with a rounded heel so you can more consistently operate the pedals, and then something that transfers pedal feel pretty well.

i have been toe heeling, with chucks, for the last 25 years. it doesn't take special shoes to push the pedals down. flat soles is it.

when you start doing more DE's then move up to specific suits and shoes. just my opinion.

If you need special shoes to heel/toe in a street machine, then you can't really heel/toe too well. I can see in a tight pedal box, or a racing pedal assembly needing something narrow, but...for a typical street car, I'll heel/toe in boots, slippers, barefoot, etc.

I wouldn't overthink it...wear what you are used to wearing and driving in.

ElCid

I just came back from my class last week, it wast great !

Many just had thin soled shoes like Sperry Top Siders, most just regular athletic shoes, some had actual Simpson Driving Shoes. I bought a pair of Puma thin soled "driving-type" shoes from Zappo's for ~$75-80 that I can still use with a pair of jeans and then take to our local open track @ Waterford Hills next Summer.

Enjoy !

If you aren't going to spend time doing track days don't buy a set of driving shoes. Get a nice set of sneakers with a flat sole that won't catch on things. As far as heel toe that will probably be a thing of the past. When Rev Match is on heel toe isn't required on downshifts.

What he said! Puma makes a good inexpensive walking-driving sneaker. Lots of pedal feel thin soles and comfortable. You can get them with manufacture logos too but no Corvette.

Vans are what I have been wearing as my driving/street shoes for years. Great pedal feel, light, and denim uppers. Breathable and durable.
