Default Must-Do Mods?

Considering the purchase of a Z06. Wouldn't be looking to go crazy with mods, but would consider the normal mix of bolt-on's. What are you guys doing to get the most out of these cars?

No doubt. Don't disagree at all.

How about in terms of cooling and airflow? I know there is a secondary radiator for M7 cars, but not much info on these yet.

Also, what about intake/headers? I would imagine that these cars flow pretty darn good from the factory. What kind of gains are people seeing from long tubes and an intake?

Pretty sure I would do am X-pipe without question. I've heard some pretty amazing sound clips, HP gains aside.

I should preface my post by saying I wouldn't be tracking the crap out of this car. My main objectives would be to improve airflow, cooling and sound. Not looking to set the world on fire from a track time perspective.

I think this is the wrong car to buy for the intent & purpose of trying to bolt on parts for more power.

Pretend it only has 600 horsepower. Then later pretend you modded it up to 650. Either is plenty.

About the last thing this car needs is more power. It already has great airflow, cooling (on the street) and sound. If changing that stuff is something you just feel the need to do, I'd start with a lesser car.

When you've exhausted traction and driver skill, both of which are in shorter supply than most imagine, it'll be a couple of years later at least.

Now if your life's not complete without the knowledge that you put a cold air kit on it, a pulley change, and headers, go for it. But the -point- of this car is that they've already extracted most of the power for you. I mean it'll run 10s. It won't run 9s with bolt-ons. So define your goal carefully...

Unlike some cars GM has built they have squeezed so much horsepower and torque out of these cars, I would be saving my money for tires to keep this thing on the road. In all seriousness, if you are not looking to blaze a track every weekend, I would leave the motor and tranny alone. It will make you smile every time you push down on the accelerator.

I guess one option I would like to find (but haven't) is stealth mode from radar detectors.

My only suggestion, is if you can afford it, get every single option you want on the car. I am so pleased I went with the 3LZ version. The car's interior is so much better looking.

Good luck.

I got so used to having this on my C6Z, I had to make it the first mod on the C7Z - Very much a stealth mode radar/laser defense system. Love it - http://www.k40.com/product/rl360i-radar-detector/

Also, I had to go with covering up the red and yellow side and rear markers as well. Small mod, but really makes a difference.

Just curious if the carbontech 1521 brakes are for zo7 or basic zo6, or both??

They have several different configurations for your needs. The 1521s are known for great street and reducing brake dust significantly. There is a thread on the site somewhere which details all. Easiest set of brakes I ever installed!

Lol, we think alike. Besides the wheel and valve covers pretty much my mod list right here.

Next up is navtool which is on order, and custom wheels also on order.

I would say 1st go to SM and or other driving school. No matter how good you are, they will make you better. I've been drag racing 37 years and still enjoyed the class and found the limits of the car first hand. After that drag radials if you are going to the strip and you better be kind of easy on the throttle when on the road. These cars will roast back tires at will. After that I would pursue any more mods.

If that is so then power enhancements won't do you any good and will be a waste of money. From your comments it sounds like you are a novice to lower intermediate level driver. At that skill level there is no need to improve air flow or cooling. You will have your hands full just getting around at part throttle on a stock engine let alone full throttle. Don't underestimate the increase in pucker factor that will happen when you actually open one of these cars up where you can hold the throttle to the floor for 30 to 40 seconds at a time. You will be well into mid triple digit speeds.

Noise only counts at the cruise in so do whatever you want to do there but all of the other stuff is superfluous.

Sold my highly modded C5 (supercharger, cam, nitrous, headers, suspension, etc., etc.) to get my 2016 Z06. I'm not doing a thing to it.
