Default My first drag race...ever

I'll start by saying I love this car!

I've done my share of road racing but would still consider myself a novice at best but I've never drag raced a car.

My brother bought a Mustang GT after I picked up my Z but before he did his research. After driving both he realized he had some work to do to try and match up. He sent the 'stang over to Shelby for a supercharger and a a tune along with some other mods and was convinced he had me on the strip. After some convincing (albeit not that much) I agreed to run the Z up against him on the drag strip.

Here we are matched up in line

my nerviousness caused me to get in trouble with the staff. I jumped the gun on pulling onto the starting line and I dragged some water from the wet box to the track. I had to back up a bit and burn some of the water off which I hadn't planned on.

Here he is with extreme confidence while I'm scared shartless I'm gonna put it into the wall

With some instruction from the staff I lined up ready to roll. I actually had some confidence at his point.

And away we went...I smoked his azz with...

I know it's not anywhere near the times I've seen on here but I'm pretty stoked with my ET especially after seeing some pretty modified vehicles tonight that didn't even come close and the fact that this is my first time doing this.

When I finished my run and picked up my ticket I was notified I would need a helmet to continue racing (note the big H they painted on my windshield)

I would have paid any price for a helmet if they had a shop for another run but to no avail.

I never expected to experience this kind of exhilaration on the drag strip and while my passion still lies on the road course I promise I will be back...every month.

I have a pretty grainy video of the run. If you all want to see it let me know. I'm sure my kids can show me how to load it up...

That is an awesome story! Don't feel badly at all as many people who poo poo drags have no idea how challenging it can be - especially for a manual car on stock tires (and probably on a limited track prep test and tune day judging by your 60 foots).

On the note of 60 foots - 2.3x is extremely high (with some members hitting a 1.5x or more likely 1.6x for some excellent ET's even on stock rubber (even better with DR's of course). In Canada I could identify your car as a Z07 simply because of the ground effects - but I know you US boys have more options. The reason I ask is that there are two tire options - and I wanted to know if you were on PSC2's or not...

That said - with even a 1.8x 60 foot - drags math says every tenth at the lights is good for (close to) two tenths at the towers - so that would get you an 11 flat. Your MPH was a little low - but that could be due to traction settings (do you know what you used?).

Either way - I'm sure your Brother wants revenge (and likely a tire lol) - so I hope you both go back and enjoy in good fun!

For a supercharged Mustang.. That's very very slow. In every aspect of that race. His mph should've been way higher regardless of the bad launch. Weird. Guess his nerves must've got the better of him or he missed a shift.

Congrats, looks like you had a great time!! Keep going back and your times will come down...if you have an A8, I'm sure you'll see low 11's maybe even high 10's at some point. Get that 60' to 1.7-1.9s and that MPH up to 125-126 and you'll be right where you want to be.

Most importantly, you had fun!!

Default Drag Racing at The Strip

Several of our club members from the Las Vegas Corvettes Association will be bracket racing at The Strip this afternoon. Perfect Vegas weather today.

Yes, he certainly wants to exact revenge. He's bringing drag radials next time :-)

I do have the Z07 package with all the aero installed and I still have the Cup 2's on but not for much longer. I'm switching over to the MPSS probably in a month or so.

I was in PTM Sport 1 and used launch control (A8). It almost feels like cheating lol

I was actually admitted as a member at the last meeting. It's my daughter's birthday today so I won't be able to make the event today. Bummed about that.

Default Birthday

Gotcha -- Daughter's birthday is much more important. Today I am going to try launch control with the Michelin Super Sports for the first time on a drag strip. May not be the quickest for a good 60 foot time with a M7 on street tires--But I am hoping for a consistent 60 foot time. Will let you how it goes. See you on March 12th--The next LVCA bracket race.

Congrats, very nice. What were the temps that night ? The reason being, my car runs like a beast in colder temps.
