Never really looked into this since I street my car as much as I do track it. Omega fuels just opened near my house and offering e85 that has been test above 85. So what does this mean for the Z. Whats involved in running e85? Do tracks have it on hand or do I need to bring it? Also I do drive my car to the beach house every weekend and there aren't really any e85 stations past this one so is the system capable of also running 93? As I said I drive too much and there are too few e85 stations around here to rely on an e85 only setup.
E85 is one of those easy mods for power, but finding it is a hassle. You will find yourself carrying 5 gallon jugs of it in the rear hatch..
It's a hassle in the vette though, or i Would have done it. You will need a tune to accommodate flex fuel, a flex fuel sensor installed, and a lot of math. The stock fuel system cannot handle 100% E85 as it cant support that much more fueling. You have to mix it, ie, 40% E85 with 60% 93 in the tank.
Some people are saying you can put in a cam with a bigger fuel lobe to accommodate 100% E85 fwiw.
sounds like too much work for a car that's not a dedicated tracker
It is. I'm sure most tracks don't hace e85 on hand, which means you would either have to carry a bunch if jugs of e85 with you or go to the gas station every time you run low.
Here's a quick pro/con list from what I know about e85:
Pro(s):
- creates less heat
- makes more power
Con(s):
- burns quicker (I think it's something like 15-20% quicker)
- can't run 100% e85 on stock fuel system (like rguy mentioned, it has to be a blend of 93 and e85)
If you did do the flex fuel sensor you could put some e85 before you go to the track but run full pump when your going to the beach, etc... My daily is on full e85 and it's a pain, always have to watch the gas gauge and pre-plan fill ups. The flex fuel sensor is awesome you could really run what you want.

I've heard some reputable places (racetronix I think is one) say u should run a return line with this pump or risk pump damage. I don't see most people do this though. Anyone have more info on that? That is what has deterred me from doing this.

nope have not seen that either... mostly people around here run the fasterproms unit...
and a local guy to me even figured out how to make a home brewed version for the c6z he runs. and it works.....
just remember people. on E85 this car will DRINK seriously insane ammounts of gas. E85 isnt close to me 25+ miles down to 10 miles or less. but i refuse to put gallons of fuel in the trunk of my brand new car. just something about that lol
I have been running Ethanol 50 for a while now..It is worth it? Hell yeah..
My car has upgraded headers, intake,flex fuel sensor, radiator, 18% pulley, cam and heads package without the upgraded fuel lobe and i made 719Whp on E50 and 91 oct.
My car makes 670 whp on just 91 oct.
The 49 Whp is very noticeable and i believe it helps the car keep cooler. I have done over 6 drag runs consequtive and the traps speeds stay consitant and even climb as the day cools off .
I blend about 60% E85 to 40% 91 oct to get a E50 mixture.

I see no merit in that at all. I've ran my 427 C7 on ethanol only since April 2014 and have never had a single issue.
