Default Launch control question

I was helping a friend yesterday at a local autocross event - he was running a Z06 automatic using launch control but was getting inconsistent results. Procedure was: apply brakes, accelerator to the floor, engine RPM goes to 2000, release brakes. My question is what event will disengage launch control? Is it backing off the throttle, and if so at what point?

If the accelerator is not held to the floor, yes that will disengage it.

Steering wheel must be pointed straight, Brake pedal must be firmly pressed, accelerator should be applied rapidly to WOT (not slowly).

When vehicle shifts out of 1st gear launch control is no longer active either.

Thanks, guys -

That explains why he was getting a lot of wheelspin within a second or so after launch - if you even so slightly back off the throttle before it shifts into second gear, you are essentially at almost full throttle with launch control disabled.

Be sure he is in PTM. Performance Traction Management.

To get there twist **** to track mode, then push center button twice.
I would then twist again 2 times to Sport 1 mode. You no longer have traction control but you still retain stabilitrac.

Yes, I verified that he was in Track mode, sport mode 1 -

There was no question that launch control was working when he first started rolling, but within 50 or 100 feet he got lots of wheelspin. I suspect he backed off the throttle slightly because he was heading into a turn, and that disengaged launch control while he was still almost full throttle.

Thanks,

Bob
