Default Mobil1 track weight oil find.

Hey guys. I just found Mobil 1 syntec 15w-50 at Walmart for $25 per 5 qt jug. Just wanted to let you know. You can order it or do in store pickup.

Yeah, Walmart has the best prices on M1. I always pick up whatever 15w50 they have in stock when I'm there.

You can also get the M1 5W50 now but not at Walmart. I ordered mine online from Amazon but it is definitely more expensive than the 15w50 at Walmart.

I've been thinking about going with the Mobil 1 0w50. Really hard on the cats but other than that it seems superior to everything else. Opinions?

Why hard on the cats? What does it have in it the others don't?

I would have to ask why also. I have been switching back to street oil after track days but its kind of a pain. I was going to run 15w50 all the time. I don't see any issues with that but I could be wrong?

Very high levels of Zinc and ZDDP. The EPA has regulated the levels down on normal street oils. I'm nowhere close to an oil expert or anything, but as far as I understand ZDDP is somewhat of a measuring stick for high performance lubrication.

The 0w-50 oil is marketed as a racing oil to get away from the EPA regulations, and also because, as I understand it, it would destroy catalytic converters at a high rate. I'm not sure if it would clog them, or just render them ineffective.

Nothing wrong with 15w-50 full time in warm weather, just make sure you let the engine warm up before getting into too much power/rpm. I was speaking specifically about the 0w-50.
