Default First post, first Corvette

Hello everyone, this is something I've been waiting to write here for about a decade. Although I am a new member I have been following the corvette forum for many years. I've enjoyed your opinions and information while hoping one day I would officially join your ranks. I am in the process of purchasing my first corvette. A 2016 zo7 and I can't wait until it gets here. Ordered it slightly used from a place called Starwood Motors in Texas and it's going to arriving in about 2 weeks. Anyway I was wondering if you could offer a first time owner some help. Any issues with Starwood Motors in the past? Also the car had 149 miles on it and it's virtually new. Seems like a reputable facility and the car was a trade in for a Porsche. Of course I lost 6mo of warranty buying it used but I believe I ended up with a good deal. DSOM zo7 2016, 2LZ, A8, painted carbon fiber ground effects, black rims, PDR, duel roof, carbon fiber roof and hood, remote start, zo7 performance package. MSRP 104 and change. They paid for the enclosed shipping to NJ in full and all dealer fees removed. negotiated down to 87,000. Did I do okay? I'm happy but worried about the 145 mile trade in. What do you think? Your opinions and comments are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any advice.

Hello and welcome to the forum and Corvette ownership. Sounds like your Z06 is really nice! I think you got a great price considering the miles it has. Some people who buy the Z06 are too big for the car and end up getting rid of it pretty quickly. I have seen that happen several times and it might be the case with yours. I wouldn't worry about the miles. The engine isn't even broken in yet.

I am here to tell you that the Z06 is a phenomenal car. You are going to love it!

ty for your reply. Is there a way to get the hx of the car with the vin? I have a clear carfax and another report on the car also came out fine. With regards to the space inside the car you might be right about that and why he traded it in. I fit fine. 5'10'' and sat in one locally last week to try it out. I hope that's all it was.

If you're really worried about it's history you can go into a Chevy (or any GM) dealership and ask them to give a printout of its service history report. Sometimes they are hesitant to give it to you but if you tell them you are considering them as your service dealership it usually helps. Otherwise there are plenty of helpful members here that have access to that database who will be happy to provide you with the service history report. At such low mileage one would expect to the report to show almost no 'events.'

I think you're going to love the car....truly. I'm curious why you would consider buying an $87,000 used 2016 Corvette (even though the mileage is only 149 miles) and not a new one....especially since you are getting this one shipped in from NJ. There are a ton of fans/users on this site that like the Z07 Track package. Before ordering my new Z06, I read several articles on this package and the common thread of all of them was....if you are not intending on tracking the car fairly often, this package is a very expensive option that will likely have little value to the owner. I wound up staying away from it, got the LZ2 package with the car, because it had options that I wanted. Anyway, my only point is with $87,000 in your pocket, you probably could shop around the BIG 4 or 5 Z06 dealers on the east coast and pick up a brandy new one for that number....maybe even save a few bucks....word has it that right now, those big boy Z06 dealers are selling at 8-10% off list without to much negotiating and arguing. Just a thought, regardless of which way you go, you'll undoubtedly want to sleep with the car you'll love it so much!

I had to have the dsom which made my choices very limited after the cut off date for final production. Despite looking at local dealerships before the cut off date I wasn't sure if the time was right until very recently. Always wanted a z06 and the z07 package was a choice I made to obtain the full experience that corvette has to offer. Tracking the car is an option I am considering and I wanted the z07 for that reason despite the heat soak issues. Either way, it's nice to have options and at 53 I wanted no regrets. Thank you again to everyone.

If you can get 20,000 off a brand new z07 packaged car I would like to know where?

I can tell you first hand that hunting down that DSOM will make you VERY happy. No regrets whatsoever and the car get a ton of attention...as I am sure all Z06s do.

Hard to know why some people buy a car and only put 149 miles on a car in 6 months. I ran into one that had been purchased in January of last year, let sit on the showroom floor until May and then driven to a storage facility from there. In November when I looked at it there were 12 miles on the odometer. He had another one sitting beside it for sale that had 350 miles on it. He had that one about a month longer than the 12 mile one.

Even if the car you purchased was a total lemon most people would have driven it more than 149 miles. They would have accumulated that many just driving back and forth from the dealership for whatever they might have thought was wrong with the car.

You have the balance of the B2B warranty to get things ironed out if necessary so I wouldn't worry about the car. When you get it drive it and get past the 500 mile point, get your 500 mile free oil change and then get it up to 2000 miles as quick as possible. That way you will be well on the way to wringing out any infant mortality failures the car may have. I bought my car on 11/30 and had 500 miles on it 10 days later. I was past 1500 miles a few weeks later. It is turning over 3K now and the passenger side power seat switch just went bad.

You probably should reread my post. I started the explanation saying that the Z07 option was a large one and if you rarely or never intended on tracking the car, you might want to think that one over. I went on to say that a number of big Z06 dealers are selling their inventory at 8-10% discounts. Getting a very nice Z06 inventory car at one of those dealerships for $87,000 shouldn't be too challenging. My point simply was if you take the Z07 option out of the picture, you have sufficient funds to buy a very nice new Z06. Maybe my wording or sentence structure wasn't too clear, but it did seem OK when I wrote it.

Welcome and congratulations!!

You will love this car and have a great time with it. I personally love the Z07 package - apart from the handling advantages I think it gives the car a much sportier and more aggressive look.

Best of luck and have fun!

I got my 2016z used with about 2000 miles on it. More than 149, but still had me thinking "Why would anyone buy a car brand new and sell it after a couple of months and 2000 miles?"

I don't really have the answer to that. But I have had it for only 2 weeks and I've already put an extra 1000 miles on it. It is so much fun to drive!
