Guys, just got home after the Spring Mountian "Ron Fellows" driving experience. It's so worth the investment of your time and extra money.

Totally a class experience and a great time meeting and driving with others Z owners across the land. GM is paying 60% of the cost... What a bargain.

Do it. Find the time

Was there on 7/15-16 2016. Great experience, it is well worth the money. Also the staff are all great. Will love to do it again. Too bad very few new C7 owners are not taking advantage of this experience.

I was there the couple of days before you (tues-wed-thu). Hot, but fun!

Why do you think it's only a few C7 owners taking it (ie: what do you base that on)? They seem to sell out well in advance even in bad weather...

They run 2 classes at least, so 40 people, twice a week, so 80 people, and if it's year round that's 4000 people they can put through, as a back-of-the-napkin guess.

I'm considering doing this however is it super basic stuff? I've been doing HPDE events for over two years and have nearly 2,000 track miles in that time. I'm by no means a pro driver, but am decently fast. So if it is basic stuff like the racing line I'm not sure how helpful it would be to me. But if it goes into more depth in vehicle dynamics and more advanced techniques like trail braking, I could always improve those aspects.

You might not learn a lot if you've got 2000 miles of track time, especially if you've had some training in that time.

I've taken several day schools before locally. I open lap but when I want to introduce someone new (wife, son) I've re-taken the intro class with them. So I've done more intro classes than I know what to do with, and they amounted to Day 1 of Spring Mountain. Day 2 is better.

They do cover trail braking, and they spend a lot of time talking about vehicle balance, not upsetting it, and so on. But in reality you're dealing with a group of 16-20 people of wildly varying abilities and experience levels.

Worst case you get a lot of track time in Z. On Day 2 you'll do 4 track sessions of about 6-9 laps each. Whether that's worth it to you only you can say. It was to me. But next time I'd want to start at Level 2.

Baylor Corvette

The class is designed for non racers. You will get limited opportunity to drive at your limit.

I would definitely go again. It's 1k and you are beating up on someone else's car.

Between insurance and registration I spend about 1k per event with my car. That doesn't cover wear and tear and expendables.

That's a really good point - I was speaking from a standpoint of no discount, for some reason. Other than airfare, I suppose, when the class is discounted like that it's pretty much a no-brainer to, as you say, drive someone else's car hard for a couple of days. You'll only get partial laps at your limits, as there will be a lead car that has to get out of your way, but they're good about doing it if you're fast out of corners (not just hot into).
