Stone chip repair
Good day . After coming home last night after a couple hours of driving , I go to clean the car ( car duster ) . I notices a couple small Tar smudges and proceeded to clean them off . What looked to be a larger smudge was, in fact , the dreaded stone chip , not really so much of a chip , more like a gash . I'll try and post pics later , gash is fairly deep and approx. 3/4 " long . Anyone have any luck or can give some advice how to make this less noticeable ? Car is 2015 Arctic white .

Dr. ColorChip has worked well on my 2014 AW car.

The front area of my rear quarters are beginning to turn white from chips. My car is black. Will need to add some sort of front flaps and get the quarter areas repainted eventually.

I've used Dr. Color Chip on two cars and have just gotten some Long Beach Red for the Z06. It is a simple way to minimize the visual appearance of a scratch or chip. It won't fill it but it does make it less visible. Hard to fill a chip and smooth it so it disappears, although it can be done. If you want to try filing it, carefully put a little touch up paint in the crack, build it up to higher than the surrounding paint, let it dry a few days then carefully wet sand with a tiny sanding block and at least 2500 grit paper. When smooth buff out. Probably won't be perfect but while somewhat risky, it is less expensive than painting the whole panel. And yes I have actually done this with reasonable success, although not on the Z06 yet.--Bob

I agree with ZR1Bob, usually over the course of a few days I'll stop and put a little touch up paint in the chip a little at a time and until I've build up the paint in the chip a little above the original paint surface. All that's left is to wet sand and buff and it will be acceptable, just remember the results depends on building up the paint a little at time, letting it cure before you wet sand. I always use the OEM touch up kit and it comes with the clear also. Good Luck!

I have also found that sometimes you may need to get a different white altogether to get a match.
Be patient a good touch up is very possible if you have patience.
I prefer it always to a panel repaint which I can usually spot from 20 feet away.
A good touch up not so much.
Use a small foam pad to color sand with soapy water and them buff to get shine back.
I have done a few where you could not detect touch up easily at all.
Go slow be patient

Hi . I was looking / thinking about getting XPEL or the 3M , trouble for me , closest place is 1 days drive away plus the time needed to fit the wrap. Looking at this " Gash " on the lower car , I wonder how the expel or 3m would look from such a hit ? Would it sort of blister , rip ?

I'm a big fan of Dr Colorchip. It doesn't make the chip disappear obviously, but it's a cheap 90% solution and once you do it, you won't notice the chip anymore unless you stare right at it. I was skeptical, but thought what the heck and bought it. One of the best "maintenance" purchases I've made.

I had Xpel installed on the nose of my car and one week later I got these stone chips. Still haven't decided whether or how to repair them, but I did just get some LBR Dr. Color Chip paint and may try that. With the Xpel I can't just fill and wet sand them. A conundrum. Xpel is good but obviously cannot stop a hard sharp hit. --Bob
