My car has 3500 miles on it and I have used 1/2 quart of oil since the 500 mile oil change. Is it normal for our engines to use a little oil? Having had an LS1 for the last 14 years I'm used to adding a bit of oil from time to time between oil changes. For the record, oil is checked when hot and per the owner's manual procedure.
There are some posts in this forum about oil usage if you do a search, but if you're only using 1/2 qt every 3000 miles then you're on the low side. It may improve as you put more miles on it.
My car is undergoing an oil consumption test right now
2016 12,400 miles on car as of today, the last oil change at 10,000 I voiced my concerns so a case was opened, per GM 1 qt in 2,000 miles is ok. I used just under 2qt's in 2000 miles and now they want to continue the test for another 2000 we shall see what the outcome is.
A quart every 1000 miles seems like a lot. Do you have any evidence of leak? My 2016 Z06/Z07 had a funny smell like oil burning for awhile that has now stopped. I concluded oil was spilled during a oil change and burned off. Good luck and I hope your problem resolves.
I think the genesis of the GM response was the 2001 Z06. Many including mine would burn oil under normal usage of a qt or more/1000 miles. Oil was cheap so I didn't worry about it, but many went apoplectic and GM came out with the Qt/1000 mile level as being excessive.
Car is many Corvettes ago, but still may have been my favorite Corvette ever, although the 16 Z is gonna take that spot over before long.
