Does anyone on the board either own or previously owned a Porsche GT4. Curious to get your thoughts between it and the Z06 for long term ownership. I currently have a GT4 but have been toying with the idea of picking up a Z06 or Grand Sport. I have car ADD and it's kicking in again. I have driven the Z07 and Z06 but only for a short time. Dealers are very hesitant to give out test drives on these. I have come to the conclusion that it's Z07 package for me or nothing as the suspension differences I wouldn't want to live without.
I'd suspect GT4 won't depreciate so fast/much. If you drive into dealer in GT4 and they won't let you test drive, find another dealer. I'd tell them to pound sand, that "it's just a Chevy..." (and have with other potential purchases.)
When I purchased my C7Z, the dealer let me take it out with my wife (or course, sans salesman).
When the 3rd Gen RX7 came out, I went to the local deal (with cash to purchase) and they wouldn't let me test drive, stating that I would have to "purchase the car and if I didn't like it, they'd refund my money". Went elsewhere and purchased one that actually let me drive it.
Two VERY different cars. Do you prefer NA engines? Do you prefer higher revving engines or do you prefer not only more torque, but much more low end torque. Do you enjoy revving out engines to capture higher performance? The ZO6 will feel like a much bigger car when you are driving it...relative to your GT4. They are both fun to drive but both are two different driving experiences. If you are concerned with resale, keep your GT4. If you are seeking more power, and are indifferent between the two very different driving dynamics, then the ZO6 is for you.

Not owned but I've ridden in my friends.
The GT4 is quite a bit slower. I had to let up on a front straight behind my friend as he was going flat out. I ended up about 20mph slower than normal at the end of the straight.
The bucket seats in the GT4, are more track oriented, and are tougher on a long trip, and even getting in and out. The Competition seats are fantastic even for a 4+ hour straight drive.
I'm pretty happy with the Z06 suspension, and can turn decent laps on the stock MPSS tires. For me the car is a daily and track car so it is the best of both worlds. You could also just get the DSC Tractiv shocks and controller and have a better setup than OEM Z07 for street or track.
The exhaust modes are better in the Z06. Stealth is great for just cruising around town or leaving the neighborhood early or coming home late. Track and Sport are just intoxicating at any RPM
Mainly I use it to drive around town with mountain runs every other week. I tend to do about two track days a year. I love the GT4 just getting the itch to try something different. The one flaw with the GT4 in my eyes is it's just too accessible and not much thought has to go in driving it. I was very impress with the Z07 handaling capabilities the first time I took her out, the turn in was much better then I was expecting. It was kind of nice to actual have to think more and be precautions with throttle position. I also have an S2000 so I have a bunch of high Erving cars and currently no really down low cars. While money is always on the mind it's not a prohibitive factor the Z will cost me less up front but I won't get the return as I would if I kept the GT. I just need more seat time in the car.

It'd be nice to have both. Like I said two very different cars and driving experiences. If there were ever a case for owning 2 sports cars, this would be it. Two cars that go about their business very differently.

I suggest that you send a PM to "QUIKAG" here at the forum. He has track experience in both cars I think. I know he got a new GT4 earlier this year and has tracked it. He loves the car and should be able to give you an honest opinion on that, if not both cars.
I currently have a GT4 and Stingray and had a ZR1 for 3 years prior to the Stingray so know what 600+HP is like. I regularly track, autocross and street drive both of my cars.
Check out this year’s SCCA National autocross results. Of the 28 people who ran in the stock "SS" group, you have to get to 16th place before you get to any Stingrays or Z06s. 14 of the 15 cars ahead of the Corvettes are Porsche GT3s and GT4s, so obviously, they handle great at slower (i.e. <80mph) speeds.
Porsches have their torque at high rpm. Most people don't drive around town at 5,000 - 7,000 rpm where Porsches really shine. Around town I prefer to drive the Stingray which has a ton of low end V8 grunt.
So both are great in their own way. I recommend keeping the GT4 and getting a new Z06 to keep it company
The GT4 is an incredible car. It can not keep up with a Z06 but it handles amazing and the feel of mid engine that shifter and the way the chassis communicates near the limit is better than my ZR1. I would assume the new Z07 is better than my ZR but doubt it's better than the porsche. That said the Z07 will run circles around the GT4. If you can do it keep the GT4 and add the Z07.

For that type of driving a C7 GS has lots of low end grunt with Z06 look and more usable power for mountain rds and IMO will hold resale better than a Z06. The C7 GS has been well loved by all reviews and voted in the top 3 best performance car with R&D or C&D?
If it were an option to keep both it would be a no brainer for me but currently that isn't feasible. I was thinking about the grand Sport, just worried I would have Z07 regret with the current price difference being minimal.

Sounds to me that you really want to make the change. If that is the case, do it. If it were me though, I'd keep the GT4 and wait for what the C8 has to offer. You have one of the most desirable cars in the market right now, and you won't lose much on it when you do sell it.
I suspect the mid engine C8 will be a perfect blend of the two (Lower displacement, higher revving engine). Assuming of course, the rear mounted mid engine C8 rumors are true that is.
