Default Seats

This is my second C7 Z06 and I track the car. Need advice on seats. I've never had the competitim seats and I'm looking for something to keep me planted better. So, should I purchase the OEM competition seats or go to the after market? I daily drive the car so that is a big factor in my decision. Any advise on aftermarket seats that can function well for both seetings!

Comp seats with the suede inserts, people have said are the way to go!!! I have the Comp seats in Napa Leather and I have had my moments of spirited driving and I feel stuck in my seat and I can see where suede would be even better.

comp seats def hold you in place... try to test fit one at a local dealer. might not be ideal for your body type... weird pressure points with my thighs :| 100 mile drives have me climbing around the seat to relieve the pressure..... also not a daily driven car and garage climate control kept so it just might be firm fresh leather

Default comp seats

I have a Z07 that I track and drive on the street. The comp seats are the way to go on the track, no question. As was mentioned, with the suede inserts, even better. They are also fine to me for daily driving. Wouldn't want to take a 12 hour ride in them, but I wouldn't want to take a 12 hour road trip in a corvette anyway lol (maybe when I was 25 lol now I am 48) I think they are quite comfortable for a competition seat, also, with actual race seats you will lose airbags, not a good choice on the street imho. Good luck

The competition seats work well on the track. They hold you place and the inflatable side bolsters can be pumped up to keep your from moving laterally. They don't have the leg supports that a true race seat has so your legs will move around some but I have been looking at using some SFI fire rated foam pads to put between my legs and the door when the door is closed. That will keep my legs in place and isn't a big deal. $60 for the pad and a few bucks for somebody to make a cloth bag to put the foam in.

If you are going to use a race harness the only issue with the competition seats is the height of the shoulder harness pass throughs. They could stand to be several inches higher. If you are over 6 foot you should determine if it is possible to use a Shark Bar or the lower bar on a BK harness bar and have the belts pass over your shoulders without being deflected by the top of the pass through. You want a non obstructed clear path from the belt mounting point to the top of your shoulder.

As for a sub belt if you use a system like the Scrhoth Profi II ASM belts you don't need a sub belt as the ASM feature meets anti-submarining requirements.

If you don't wear a HANS and don't really need a race harness then the 3 point belt system will work very well holding you into the seat when you use the standard Cinch Mode to lock the belts tight. When you go on track you do not fasten the belts like you do on the street you want them tight, tight, tight, tight and cinch mode does that. With proper fastening you can get the belts tight enough to restrict your breathing and pull the lap belt down into your pelvic girdle so it is right where it is supposed to be.

If is sometimes hard to get people to understand that and when I take people for track rides I will stand outside the passenger door, move their seat all the way to the rear, put their belt into cinch mode, fasten it and then use all of my weight to pull the shoulder/lap belt tight before I move their seat forward. A lot complain about how tight the belt is before we hit the track but none have complained about how tight it is once on track and when we get back to the paddock. Some have even said they wish I had gotten it tighter.

Just so you know, even with 3LZ, the comp seats are not Napa leather but rather the same Mulan leather found in any other car with Comp seats.

That said, I have them with suede inserts and find them to be quite comfortable. Just drove back from Savannah to Atlanta, approximately 4.5 hours, and they were perfect the entire trip.

In my experience, it depends on how aggressively you drive. Dedicated race seats will hold you much better than the stock competition seats. You will be holding yourself in position with your hands on the steering wheel and you'll lose some sensitivity. If you strap yourself into a real race seat with 5 or 6 pt. harnesses with less padding, you'll feel the car better. A good fit on race seats is very comfortable. I've driven all day at the track and then 8 hours home with no problem in mine, and I have a bad back! ( Sparco Evo 2)

thanks for all the replies. I hit the track about 5 to 7 times a year. Seems comp with suede would be best for my
usage.
